For a quik n easy, I Built an A bone with stock rear end, 39 trans, juice brakes, stock radiator, and 265 chevy engine. Was dependable and trouble free. I once found TWO, A 2 door tub bodies. They were found when chasing parts for my duece tub. they were cut in center and doors n parts stuffed in a pile. they had a lotta wood in them which was rotted. I bought the pile for $25 and sold em for $75, big bucks in the day.

    Nice car!

I hope this thread keeps growing. There must be more cool tourers, tubs and phaetons out there.

Id say keep it the way it is except a windsheild of course. For the engine i definitely say an early flat head. It looks awesome the way it is in my opinion. I just like original cars..

Tubs are around, you have to really hunt for them, however. This is a rare '32 standard Model B phaeton, the latest one of more than a dozen I've owned in 45 years. Most came from out of the country. I have found '32's ih the USA, Australia, Argentina. India, South Africa, and even Nepal! Other than US Customs, they weren't that hard to ship.

I had a buddy who knew a guy that had a duece 2dr, he volunteered to help me get a deal on that [$75]cuz they were friends. Then a year or so later I found out about a local duece tub body [$75 also] and he, helped me get a deal on it. This was around 1957, 58. I mounted the tub body on the 2dr frame, but never finished it. I sold it to a guy who now owns the Ivo T, he had Dan Woods build the tub and its just a beaut. but these were good deals even then. the stuff was around but it was all hidden here and there, and you usually lucked out a la, the grapevine.About 10 years after I sold the 2 A tub bodys I happened to be at Don babs shop in LA I saw those very same bods being crated up to be shipped somewhere, amazing how things turn out sometimes.

Don't screw up the period look. Keep the fenders. They were put on it for a purpose, and will prove themselves if you are carrying passengers. Sixteen inch steel rims with beauty rings and ford hub caps are part of the classic look. Or, maybe a set of Kelsy Hayes twisted spokes. Motorvation is a dicey question, and you should work on the formula of weight, speed, and the fact that even forty brakes are for crap at speed. Even forty guys go to F100 brakes or better, even those who are traditionalists. There are some new Ford four-bangers that are interesting if you want to go high tech. If you have the long green, or have a line of credit, one of the Donvan four bangers would be full tits. For simplicity, convenience, and durability, like someone already said, a small displacement small block Chevy puts you in the land of plenty. I once heard Jake Jacobs say, that no matter how high the price of gasoline went, he'd run a small block. Of course he's got some other rods with other engines, now, but I listened and took notice of his point of view. It's hard not like the A pickup he drove to high school that was featured in the early Pete and Jake's catalogs. And, I'm not trying to make other suggestions, but their stuff works, if you decide to update your drive train, which is part of the deal when you start adding horses. I know from experience. And, of course, all this comes from one who likes to drive what he builds. Your car is a nice place to start from. Good luck.

It really shocks me how much the $$$$$ amount has gone up on the old tin. I'm happy that I got some when I was younger:D and prices were better. I just wish the pheatons were more popular today so you see them and enjoy them.
I'm a fan of the RestoRod and keeping the fenders and just hopping up the drivetrain.. I don't think I would keep the banger motor, they are great with a better trans in back of it but still lacks power getting on and off the highway and traffic.I say flathead with a T-5 and still use the model a rearend.

Here is an old [1957] picture of my favorite phaeton. I don't know how many builds I have left in me, but maybe I should put my '32 together like this one.

It should be all the proof you need to convince you that you don't need to be chopping yours up to make a roadster. ;)

Buy yourself a copy of HOW TO BUILD A TRADITIONAL FORD HOT ROD and follow the directions. Vern Tardel and Mike Bishop made it easier by publishing this book.

Another one that fell through the cracks when the top 75 were voted on! That car is perfect.

I like the fendered idea a whole lot better for that particular car as I think it would get driven a whole lot more with fenders. Maybe find a local restorer with an equally nice set of fenders w/o wheel wells to trade + a little boot unless you want to do the full on resto rod look.
Dead nuts reliable engine with a dropped axle, nice but serviceable interior and drive the wheels off it with a batch of grinning kids in the back seat.

I don't have anymore shots of it, but you might check with gearheadbill to see if he does. If I am not mistaken , the car was sold a few years back out of Wenatchee,WA.
