Phew! New Project breakthrough (Hi Tech motor probs solved)

    Ok anyone remember the 36 coupe I bought recently??
    It was a bit of a different approach for me because of it's high tech engine and running gear.
    In my book the simpler the better, right?
    The motor is a 2.9l quad cam efi ford Cosworth V6, from a Granada Scorpio. (Not the USA Granada)
    When I bought it thje motor did not run, it wouldn't start. I cleaned the plugs and it did run, bu8t not very well.
    I left it for a while and did other stuff, but recently decided to either get it going properly or I'd have to consider junking the motor and finding something else to fit.
    It would run and get progressively lumpier until it would seriously stumble, then catch with a big overspeed and settle a while then get worse again.
    Early on I found a hego sensor was bad so I fitted another. No better.
    I found the egr system was not piped correctly. changed it around and fitted the missing vacuum solenoid. Still no good. Found the method of reading codes out of the ecu. Told me nothing I didn't know already.
    Totally removed the egr setup. No good.
    Bought new spark plugs (over £30 worth- that's about 45 bucks!!)
    Seemed better, was smoother longer, but still ended up faltering and dying.
    Removed the inlet manifold****embly and sealed the gaskets with silicone.
    No good.
    pulled the plugs, starting with the three on the left bank. All were heavily sooted up. Pulled the other three. all were clean, almost like new!
    This had to be significant.
    Decided to swith the wiring between the hego sensors.
    I thought I'd sussed it. but amazingly still no good, In fact the bottom hose blew off and I abandoned all hope.
    That was last night.
    This morning, After refirtting the hose, I decided to measure the voltages in the hego sensors. I looked and found one of the hego connector plugs had come out (due to stretching the harness over to the other side) Plugged it in, started it up and it was better. In fact it was fine!
    It ran and idled for ages without faltering.
    So I'm pleased because I now no longer have to find another engine, and the actual fix cost nothing!

    Hey Mart i have always found the best advice is to keep it simple,glad you got the car running but i prefer old rusty any time(old rusty is marts A).I will soon have my truck up and going so will probably see you at Old warden if it's done by then..........................Marq
     
  3. Well good that it didn't cost you anything.. I dont know how many times a car would come in the shop running like*****. Then you undo some connectors to test things, all good, plug it all back in and like magic its fixed...
    Its amazing how delicate this new***** can be!!!
