I was cruising around north Phoenix, up Cave Creek, and I saw a bunch of good looking rides in a fenced commercial yard. So I whipped around and saw that it was Haynes Rod and Custom. They were closed, so I didn't get to talk to anyone. I was curious to see if anyone has had them do any work for them. Quality and Cost, you know... No matter how much I try to convince myself otherwise, there are some things I just don't have the talent/ability/tools to do myself. Thanks for any info.

Never heard of them, but that's on the other side of the planet from me here in Chandler. Do you live up north or just looking for a shop? There are quite a few here in town, maybe more than you think (more than I thought!).

Jerry's right. Industrial Chassis is the guy in town.

  6. Darryl Haynes is an old friend of mine. I worked one year for him at his old location on Central and Dunlap. He let me use a bay in the back for my fledgling hot rod stuff if I did the underdash work no one else would in his shop. I built a few cars and trucks there including three 40-41 Ford pickups.

Darryl had a chance to pick up that property and opened up a paint booth and wanted me to stay on permanently. I had other designs but he did pick up a few good people like his nephew Dick Haynes and Guy Neault. I worked with both of these guys and they are good folk. Guy did all the paint and body on the first turn key job I ever did, a jet black 50 Olds coupe that is now in Palm Springs.

Darryl is retired and only has the shop open a few months out of the year from what I know. Last I talked to him he wants me to restore the chassis on his 60's gasser 55 Chevy.

Thanks, ELpolacko, for the info (and everyone else). Just looking at the cars in the yard, I could tell that customers who knew their stuff were brining their cars to this place. I could see into that spray booth that they had a late 30's Cab all taped off ready to be chopped, so that drew my interest.

I plan on dropping by there soon.

    Thanks again.
