On the cad the exhaust is all rotted out it ends right after the mufflers, which are all rotted out anyways. Kind of fun to start it up it is LOUD. Should I try and redo the exhaust myself or take it somewhere? Im fifteen and I don't have any metal/welding skills but I dont like the idea of other people doing my whole car. Id like to do it with someone supervising but dont really have anyone. Im thinking glasspacks, I love how they sound when theyre backing down. Should I do it myself or bring it somewhere? If Im taking it somewhere, should I just go to Mighty Muffler and the like or is there somewhere you can recommend? -Nathan
exhaust is a******. I paid $150 to get REAL nice dual straight pipes done while I watched. I woulda been VERY hardpressed to do anywhere near as nice work in 4 days as this dude did in an hour and a half.
Your 15/16 years old right? See if there is any welding/metal fab/shop class that you can get into while still in high school. Take advantage of that stuff while it's available to you. Maybe you won't be able to do the exhaust this time on your Cad but start learning that stuff as soon as you can and****ociate yourself with people in your area that have the skills you wish to develop and pick their brain. My best friend growing up signed up for a welding votech program during high school now a direct result of what he learned then supports him 100%. I know this may not answer your question but maybe it helps a little
I've got the same problems as you do: 59 Caddy with rotted exhaust and being young(18 and not a yuppy) what I will do until I can put straight pipes out the back is glasspacks out the side and drive with the windows down.
So Mesa Muffler IS the best? I've had them do a couple of things that I really thought was half-assed. On my 55, there is a spot where my exhaust goes through the K member. On the Driver's side, instead of getting the bend correct, they just wedged a piece of rubber between the pipe and the edge of the hole so it wouldn't rattle. I think it might still leak, also. On another occasion, I gave them specs for a small pipe I wanted them to expand, something like 1 5/16" on one end and 2 1/8 on the other. I was trying to adapt the small 2bbl air cleaner I had to Jay's 1bbl in his 59Apache. It only cost me $4 so it wasn't worth my trouble to bring it back and******, but when I got it back and it wasn't even close, (it was 2 1/8 on both sides) I was pretty pissed. It took me 2 trips over there, one to drop off my diagram, and the other the following day to pick it up, and they just couldn't figure it out. Maybe it's just my luck!
Mighty Mufflers, Inc. 10032 N. Cave Creek Rd. Phoenix AZ 85020- (602) 944-5210 Does a good job. They did my car duals, mufflers with crossover from the manifold to the tips for $225 total. They put the tubes up and around my frame so nothing hangs down and looks very nice. I will go back when my 54 needs pipes.
sorry jerry i have to agree the place in mesa*****S .I used them a couple a times when i lived there , yeah they were cheap but thats about it . The place on cavecreek is not the cheapest but good use them ...
