Here are a few more photo's of that "other Merc" you are refering to. A 51 mercury with a very caracteristic chop. Leaned back A-pillars and sunken rear window. All I know it was an Detroit custom. Anybody knows any details on this custom. This outdoor photo looks to be taken in the early 50's judging the background cars. The front appears to have a modified stock 1951 Mercury grille. From this angle it looks like the windshield is not chopped mutch... only leaned back a lot. The B-pillars where cut a lot.
Hey RIKSTR, Great shots,...... got some more ?,... I have a Road Knights meeting on Tuesday , if Harry or Elwood is there I ask them about the Merc. Here is another one for you all,..... you see that A-V8 roadster behind the Buick ?,... this is it just about 6 months later. Summer night , Bob Vivian was driveing on 9 Mi. near orchadr lk. at the top of a hill a drunk was passing another car coming from the other direction,.Bob did live through this. this picture was taken in Frank Mack's yard and on his trailor,............ sad huh ? Hey Rickster please look for any pictures of the 36 custom I posted, and by the way where did you get these pictures ?
Thanks Bill for bringing this one back. Gives me another change to ask one more time about the Mystery Ford custom in front of the Barris Shop. In one of the recent Life Magazine photo additions the car can also been seen in the background. Showing the work done on the grafted on fenders. Car on the right with the front fender and part of the door and top showing. Anybody knows anything about this car? who was the owner, and was it ever finished? It is a cropped image from this photo...
Wasn't the car in the larger pic restored or cloned in the 80's? I remember seeing it at KKOA shows everywhere and enjoyed looking at it.
------------------------------------------------- yes it was--Clarkaiser's was called the Arctic Sands, I believe the clone was called Arctic Gold.Have photos of both, but wilk take time to find. TwoChops
Fantastic photos, real history unfolding.great thread.I would also love to see photos of that 36 five window, looks killer.
Thanks for the pix and for refreshing my old ass memory! I really like that car. Is the clone still around?
Gteat!!!! this is great... What ever happened to the Greishen? I remember in the late 90's it was sitting down the street from my house. all fadded, and at that time I didnt know what it was, untill later after it was gone......never saw it again. I heard it was taken to Calif.
I think this photo was made at an early Paso show.... I know the car is still around and the last I heard it was for sale for a huge amount of money.. and the car was in rather poor shape. Another one... taken later
Just to let you guys know, the "Modern Parisienne" is alive and well in the state of NJ.It is sitting in the back of a restoration shop.Saw it not too long ago.
Just to throw it into the mix,..... Here is Romango, the Merc seen in front of my 36 in the old Autorama shot, this car was shown a couple years ago at Pebble,..... this picture was taken at the old Ford Rotunda show,.... And here it is in front of the '36 at the 1st. Autorama. It took 3rd. at Pebble Beach,... any current pictures of it ?
Wow !, Great shots !,..... that first one (when it was in American Rodder) when Harry McAllufe still owner it (Harry saved this car from a pretty lowly state) was taken in Frank Mack,s back yard in Farmington Mi. on 8mi. road, they had photographed Frank's Roadster and Romango the same day and they were in the same issue,..... Frank and Harry are/were members of my car club "The Road Knights Detroit", M.H.R.A. And both Bruce Meyer and Ross Myers, Kept the RKAC (our original "Road Knights Auto Club) club plate on the cars,.... and as a interesting note; the garage you see in the background of the Bob Vivian wreck, is the side of the garage in this picture with the Merc.
Someone should put the Grecian out of its current misery by restoring it to the very earliest version.
Thanks from me too Two Chops! I never saw this and the pictures are just too cool to stop staring at. Say..Rikster, is that Sam behind the car in your cropped close up? Michael
Harms Way-Thanks for posting the Rotunda photos.I get a lot of Rotunda photos from the Larry Ernst collection.Show what you have I'll do any not shown. Here's some of the Clarkaiser T-bird that I took last year.
Michaelthe9-56Kustom Photo used for my avatar is part of series of photos taken at Barris Kustoms by Life magazine. Sam Barris is sanding on the deck lid, I used it because it best shows my interest in old b&w photos of early customs. TwoChops
