Photo Shoppers...I need help in updating my '46 Merc

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Reggie, Jun 9, 2004.

  1. Man, I love this car but the mint green primer dates the car. I'm just looking to do some simple things to it like change in primer color(flat black), maybe some steelies or chrome reversed, and maybe a set of wide whites.

I don't want to do anything major cause I don't need another major project. Just want to make it where it is not embarrassing to drive.

I'll tell you what, save yourself the trouble of another project and lemme come take it off your hands... I'll be there in less than 2 hours, leave the garage door up and the keys in the ignition, & we'll call it a day [IMG]

I would say definitely not flat black.. how about a bronze or gold color w/cream steelies on bias blackwalls? I don't have photoshop.. but I think that would be killer..

I'm thinking that the merc would look tough as hell in that new copper color that you find on some of the pt cruisers etc... Wide whites definately! and maybe keep the old school look with some tight**** pinstriping.

Some of that yellow tinted primer would fix ya right up...

(okay...I just HAD to tweak the body a LITTLE bit, too! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG])

Just a couple of ideas but as long as you have a choice, don't do black.

Embarrassed? I should say so. What were you thinking when you left off the heartbeat graphics. Embarrassed is right...

Try this one on for size. I don't think there's any shame in the color, especially since it is flat (and patina'd). Just throw some wheels and tires on, and rattle can the scallops and GO. I WISH I had a car that nice that I could be embarrassed of...

I'm with Django on this one, unless you just can't live with the color, I think some "artwork" on it makes all the difference.

Color isn't all that bad, like they said, it's what you do with it. Pulling some lines is going to make it look a lot better... scallops white or black would look cherry on there. If you're too embarassed to drive it... I''ll take it!

Man, your "other projects" must really be something to put a nice car like that on the back burner. I would have killed to be able to START with a car that nice.

Like said - no need to change the color, just the attitude. And Django's second version pretty much nails it. Ugly to righteous with a set of wheels, roll of tape and a spray can.

Now, if it was mine....I'd put something else on the back burner and get to work. That car is prime material for a classic fat fender custom.

  16. Cool guys!! I really like Djangos interp...the second one that is. (I was able to take of the original lightening bolt a few years ago...it was tape [IMG] ). Would the current wheels work with W3s and the Djangos scallops?

It looks ok, but with 15 cars, you don't have any steel wheels and caps lying around??? [IMG]

If you have no love lost on those tires, look up the painting whitewalls with Krylon Fusion paint thread a few months back. When it starts to look bad, then buy new tires.

  18. It does look kinda confused with the current wheels and whitewalls. Plenty of steelies lying around so steelies it is!

The wide whites are definetly '50s and the wheels are late '60s. Sure you can run it that way....if you don't mind people talking behind your back. [IMG]

What a change, and could be done in a day.

I did these and I'm a******. Only took me a day. 7 1/2 hours to lay out the design and 30 minutes to paint 'em.

Dangit Reg, every time I talk to you, or read a post, I find out about another car you have!!!

  23. The car would look good in flat black w/ black powdercoated steelies, nice, small chrome caps, and wide whites. In my humble opinion, it isn't one to be going the late 50's/early 60's scalloped route with. That stuff is trendy right now...but it doesn't seem right for this car.

It'd also look cool w/ red steelies, wide whites, and solid red chunky flames to match the wheels. Yep, this has been done a thousand times...but there's a reason for that. It looks good. Especially on round cars.

Something classic will suit it well.

    Wish I knew PhotoShop...but I don't.
