Event Coverage PHOTOS... a gearhead's florida vacation

A couple of weeks ago, my girlfriend and I did a road trip through Florida. Starting from Miami, we went down the Keys, drove up the east coast, went to the Don Garlits Museum, attended the Billetproof Drags, drove down west coast and even saw one or another alligator.

The following day, we got up early after spending the night in Lakeland to attend the Billetproof Drags... A very cool laid back event with lots of great cars. Even met some Hambers and a couple of guys from the Rumblers Orlando. Another great day.

Are the racecars at Don's all authentic, or are some reproductions?

most of them are authentic but there are some recreations. Don't remember which, though.

 

Towards the end of our trip, we visited the classic car museum in Sarasota. Some guy working there told us about a huge car collection in an old Walmart building, located in Punta Gorda. And just because it was right on our way down south (what a great coincidence ), we decided to check it out.

The place is called Muscle Car City, and while I'm not a muscle car guy, I was overwhelmed and impressed by the quality and the sheer amount of cars. While not strictly Hamb-material, it's some great display of american car history. Eustis is a beautiful little town. .Just about all these small towns have a cruise on weekends, Plant City, New Smyrna, Deland, Florida ain't such a bad place, the weather's nice and you can drive a roadster year round.
