@Black_Sheep - Thanks a bunch for posting. Hope you don't mind me intruding on your excellent thread.
I snapped a few as well when I was there on Saturday. A good buddy of mine had his newly-completed '34 Ford pickup in the MSRA display.

The GSTA spring get-together never disappoints. Plenty of stuff that's on-topic for here, and plenty of stuff that's not but that's great for all the folks who come through the admission gate. Something for everybody!
Here's a view of the main show floor.

You're right, Don Groff's hand-built STREET LEGAL special was beyond cool.
There are folks who may consider it O/T for several reasons, but I'm going to push the envelope and post a couple of pics and won't be offended in the least if the mods decide to send these pics packing...

This was a graphic on the ends of the rear wing! :D;)

Although many of the details of the car are decidedly off-topic, the engineering that went into it is simply off-the-charts. And it is, according to the show sign, fully licensed, insured and street driveable. Wow.

It would appear that we've both been mis-lead!! :D
Here's a modified B&W version of one that I snapped of that same car.
    Was this 2024..... or 1964?? ;)

  8. Thank you all for the first rate coverage. Can you fill us in as to what GSTA means?

    Gopher State Timing Association.

I was there with my son. Didn't get nearly as good pictures as above. I love the blown 364 in that 40.

  10. Thanks, I trust you are serious.

It's absolutely serious. Here's a link to the website, neat history tidbits there as well:

Here is another picture of Groff's engine. IMG_2254.jpeg

  14. While it's a little afield; I thought that it was neat that somebody built a model Fred's California modified (now owned by another Fred). He took that car thru many changes over the years. Miss hanging with him.

Neat story and photo - wondering if you'd care to share more? Maybe I knew who Fred was; the car/model does look familiar. That whole model car display was great to see.
For those who don't know, it was a 1/25th scale replica of the full-size show and I believe all the models were brought in by their builders to be put in the display. Seems every time I walked by it there were people around checking it out.

I'll add a couple more - both these cars are survivors from the early days of the Minnesota Street Rod Assn.
This '40 convert was built in the '60's by one of the charter members and still wears its original lacquer paint. The present caretaker is a long-time '40 Ford owner and it was great to see the car again. Brought back a lot of great memories of a super-cool and fun guy. R.I.P. Pete!

And this '34 sedan displayed by its present caretaker is another 1960s survivor. The show signs are original Dave Bell artwork. I never knew the original builder/owner but have heard a great many stories and cool comments from those who did. He passed away at a too-young age. R.I.P. "Wogg".

Good eye! I never noticed that and probably wouldn't have known the difference if you hadn't posted.

I think I’m wrong on that. I don’t look at the picture close enough. The valve covers have “New York” cast into them. So they wouldn’t also say “Made in England”. It would make sense if they didn’t say “New York”

  21. Fred Rowe. When I first got to know him in the '70s , his little modified was 409 powered, after an incident, it was taken down; but eventually came back in green primer rolling on mags with flathead power. It was on the cover of something in the later guise. Lost track of Fred after he moved back to CA.

Thanks, cool pic. I do recall hearing the name, didn't know him but might have crossed paths a time or two.
And I thought the car (model) looked familiar but after seeing the pic I can't say I remember it after all. Neat little rod. A 409 and no front brakes though... ??
    (Sorry for sidetracking the thread.)

  24. Been a while; but looking thru some old stuff I found a picture of Fred's modified in the last version like the model.
