Thanks heinz51. Actually it is a combination of things - usually. Getting a good composition and pretty clean shot in the first place. I always have a polarizer on which really helps with reflections and makes the color better and bracket my exposures I usually take 3 exposures at different levels and blend them together in the computer to even out the contrast and make the color better. Then, in the computer, usually quite a bit of clean up to get rid o f unwanted items in the picture - wires, parts of people, entry tags, junk on the ground and so forth - often very time consuming. Then color corrections and sharpening where warranted. Finally, in some cases - a filter if it helps. Hopefully after all these years of doing it, I'm at least a little good at it. I am more trying to make them artistic and not really trying for 100% coverage. I skip a lot of really nice cars because they are in horrible places, partially in shadow, etc.

Thanks a lot Wayne (Bowtie Coupe) and Joe (oldsjoe). BTW Joe - this thread is way late and just barely underway - a lot of images to come. I have just been very busy with real life.

As always - I appreciate your comments and support Wayne and Al - many thanks to both of you. Thanks to you prefect20 and thanks again Joe. Joe if you get bored waiting for these to show up - I have quite a few other threads or for the really easy way to look at my whole repository of car event photos, including lots of stuff that isn't on the HAMB or FaceBook or anywhere else - go to http://www.pbase.com/dlgphoto/carevent.

This will be the last shot for a few days since I am on my way to KKOA, where I will most likely see this car again.

Thanks Joe and sorry to all for the ridiculously long break in posting. Real life job and other car shows, etc. have kept me really busy.

If anyone knows for sure what year this Mercury is (I know it's between 52 and 54) and the owner name, I would love to know. Thanks in advance.

  17. Don't know about the owner but it's a '52 or '53 Mercury.
Or at least the front bumper is. ;)

Thanks Sancho - based on that and taking a further look at the rear quarter panel chrome trim and the hood - I am going to say it's probably a 1954 Mercury
