Event Coverage PHOTOS: Goodguys INDY EVENT COVERAGE. No Rain? No Mud? WTF?!?!?!?

Goodguys moved the Indy event and gave it a new name. I heard a few complaints about having the event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but by far the majority of feedback I got was extremely positive. Lots of people liked the drag racing at ORP, I'm one of them, but IMS is a FAR nicer facility that improves every other aspect of the event. What was annoying though was were the freakin' Indy car ride-alongs going on Friday and Saturday. It was an IMS thing, unrelated to Goodguys, we just had to suffer through the noise. On the plus side, the weather was comfortable with sun and high 60-low 70 degree temps. No rain (OK, a few sprinkles on Sunday) and best of all NO MUD!

That said, the event went off pretty darn well even though there were several events vying for attention. Adding AutoCross was a big hit and the course was very technical and fun to watch.

The swap had the same number of vendors as usual, but was in a larger area.

The facility itself offered a bunch of cool nooks and crannies for parking, most within site of the "pagoda".

All in all I thought it was a good time and am definitely looking forward to next year!

The drummer for Rick K and the All Nighters is worth the price of admission. He is astounding!

Lose the hideous '90s mirrors and this baby has some potential.

I get Indy cars at Indy, but this ride along deal wasn't even available to Goodguys' customers. Kind of lame on top of being loud and annoying.

  10. Nice Pic's Kirk, wish I was there, too many car shows and not enough weekends.

I hope its not the same weekend as Ty-Rods next year.

I'd be curious to know what Richard Petty thought of a Goodguys Hot Rod event ... Did he get a chance to look around? ... or was he too busy signing autographs in the WIX Filters booth?

We sure had a great time. It was so nice, and so much to do and see.
I was all over the place and seem to miss a lot of action.
I kissed the bricks.... I wanted to go in the Indy car around the track.
We met a lot of new friends and saw a lot of old friends.
Can't wait for next year and I will be sure to make up for what I missed this year.
Great to see everyone that came up to say Hi!

i was there my lousy pics are in another thread , yours are awesome 2 things that sucked beside the swap meet

as you said those indy cars really sucked

and i stood in line over an hour waiting for mr petty ive allways wanted to meet him then while patiently waiting inline i hear oh hes running late wont be here for another 10 mins or so then theres a chance youi may not to get up there to meet him cause hes only here for a an hour and half (guy in a yellow goodguys shirt or maybe it was a wix shirt told the people in the back of the line that) so i gave up and walked to the car and came home

ill be back next year hopefully more cars will show up also

I have heard that staying like that is typical Richard Petty.

Thanks for all the cool photos Kirk. It was GREAT seeing you again. I had a blast at the event. I LOVE the new venue and didn't mind the Indy cars too much. It kinda gave the place even more ambiance.

The highlight of the event for me was being able to drive on the track FAST! I was alittle disappointed that we only got to go around the track once, unlike all the other GG track events where three times is the norm BUT it was really cool that I got to go as fast as I dared unlike the past track event there were we all had to play follow the leader. I heard thru the grapevine that GG is working on more laps for us for next year so I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for all you do Kirk to help keep the tradtional vibe at the GG events stong. It is greatly appreciated.

Actually HAMB member VooDooChili did the ride along on Saturday morning. It was preplanned. The company that did it did not know that another event was going to be going on the same day so they were not prepared to sell additional rides and drives.

It's not, it's the last weekend in Sept next year.......same as James Dean and Ducktail.

It was WONDERFUL seeing you again sweetie.

He really is. He understood that the fans were what made racing from early on. Maybe a lesson is in order for the new crop of NASCAR divas.

I painted the lobby of the Richard Petty driving experience at Charlotte, with a life size picture of him. He came in right after I finished and checked it out, stood right beside it and said " Thats all right." Then talked for a while.
