Rural carrier Lloyd Mortice created this unusual vehicle for use on his snow-bound New England route. Mortice fitted his 1926 Model-T with a steel track on the rear drive shaft, enabling him to drop either wheels or skis into place in front, depending on weather conditions. The company that sold Mortice the steel track later produced a similar vehicle based on the carrier's idea.

Look at the bracing behind the tender wheels.This is a False front display piece not actual locomotive and tender,much like the Hollywood set buildings.

Description

L.F.N. (Leon) Baldwin prepares for an exhibition run at the inaugural races at Old Orchard Beach, held on Labor Day Weekend, 1911. Baldwin's car, No.3, is a special 30 hp Stanley steam race car, one of two designed for long-distance events, specifically the Vanderbilt Cup races in 1906. In one of his runs on the beach, Baldwin set a speed record for a mile in 39 seconds, 92.3 mph
