T-Head, you know I'm a nut for junkyard pix, man.
I dig this one, as you can SEE the steam-shovel in
the frame. ANY idea at all approx. YEAR and what
CITY this was in? That building in the background
does not say "small town" to me. Thanks, my simian
    bro!

Listen carefully, Bruce. Don't brake hard going
into the turns! The dog-catcher will get you,
and he will kill you. Momma can teach you to
drive, but the rest is up to you. Your life is
in your own paws, so don't mess up, for God's
sake! ... sniff ... for my sake!

Taken in 1918 at Camp Dodge, Iowa (named after civil-war Union commander Grenville Dodge of Iowa), this publicity still would have been published in newspapers and, surely, was seen by reps of the Kaiser in Germany.

How would you like to be the Germans -- stressed from trench fighting since 1914 -- and see the photo of 18,000 healthy soldiers, SOON to get on ships to meet you on the battlefield???

Item 6686 zoom [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] Description

Back of photo reads "This rig was used to take the Sunday Papers from Portland to Canton, Me. on The Portland and Rumford Falls Railroad. Copy photo from an original in S. Gordon Collection." It was called a steam railroad rig.

Neat rig. Made me think of the one run on the Mt. Washington cog railway called Peppersass.

T-Head, huge thanks, buddy. Since no car in the pic seems newer than the '20s, I'm guessing it was taken in the early '30s. What'cha think?

Twin6, thanks for locating a lower-res copy of the WWI Camp Dodge war-bond pic. I found one, too, but your efficiency beat me to the punch, you ol' Bonobo, you! LOL

Turns out that was only one of several staged patriotic-theme shots set up by two Chicago photogs -- another being the Liberty Bell. I'll try and find some of those others for this thread. (A good thing they didn't try & depict one of the Packard gals. There probably weren't enough recruits at any one training camp!)

I wish we could see more of this guy's rig. It looks like a T speedster, and I never get tired of looking at them.
