Times Square, 1935. Betty Boop on the marquee. The Astor came down mid-sixties, along with Penn Station and Singer Building: a bad time for beaux-arts. Streetcars in the square, no overhead wires.

Cecil Walkden Wood in his third home-built car, photographed circa 1910. The coachwork is by wheelwright and coach builder John James Grandi. The passenger is Wood's son, also named Cecil. Probably photographed in Wood's home town of Timaru, New Zealand

5 litre chain drive car chassis 471 on the left with Ettore Bugatti’s children Jean and Lidia c. 1914. At Molsheim. The chassis to the right may be number 715.

    Thanks, T-Head! I'd HEARD Loziers were big cars . . .
but Daaaaamn! I checked out some stats on this car.
131-inch wheelbase (!) pulled by 554-CID six under
the hood with a 5.5-inch stroke! For the time, that
made a potent 55-hp for 1910. And the whole package
for only $6 GRAND!!! No wonder they eventually
went under. What would $6,000 equate to in 2010
    dollars?

Looks like an IHC. Cool Indiana license plate. The "Ind" is covered on the right side, but I have never seen an early prestate (homemade) plate with "No." before the number.

I've read in several places what that amount would equate to at that time, and maybe that will help. Many of the high end cars cost about the same as a newly built brick home in a good neighborhood of a prosperous US city. Now the fun begins: would you trade your home for that Lozier? Ouch!

    Twin6 & BigCheese, YOWEE! $136,000 ???

I wish I had a 95-point or concours-class Lozier, then, 'cause my wife and I could build a decent house way out in the boonies where we are wanting to retire. We have 13 acres BUT no dough. I guess lots of us are in that club, eh?

Large or not, that’s an awesome photo.

Rubicon trail, eh? Seems almost silly that nowadays, you’d absolutely “have” to have a heavy-duty Jeep to contemplate the same journey.
