Yes, it's a Yale. The same photo (without the background removed) is pictured in the Standard Catalog.

Pretty amazing! You guys turned up an eight-cylinder car from 1917-18! The eights were around 275- to 280-CID, by Colonial and also Massnick-Phipps. HOW damned often do you hear THOSE two engine-maker names????????

I'm back, and it looks like everyone went bananas. Here's the only old photo I have handy of a Rickenbacker, and I was careless in making note of its source. Probably kurtis' thread.

Twin6, I don't see the a-PEEL of your comment there, buddy!

Anyway, Eddie's fan club out here does know that the working-class guy honed his interest in mechanics in Columbus, Ohio, THEN became a racer, including Indy -- and all BEFORE going off to shoot down Fokkers. His resume' does not end there certainly, but I'll leave it for now, as it would take a book (Hmmmmm????) actually there are SEVERAL books on him!

More license plate fun and games. I have no idea what the car is on the left, but someone with access to Iowa registrations would. Or one of the sharpies on this thread will know. On the right, an Olds (even a Packard guy recognizes those two tiered running boards as Olds). In 1914, Mr. U.L. Cupuis of Warsaw, NY was the registered owner of this car (their spelling, not mine). Fits in nicely with the banner behind the car.

Boss man T6, I tried to keep these guys in line while you were gone but you can see what happened.

Your photo is Rickenbacker in a early four cyl. Duesenberg or Mason racing car. The Duesenberg Bros. built cars for Mason that they designed and also called their early four cyl. racing cars Masons.

The first photo is the Mason racing team with Eddie on the left.

The second and third photos show the early 8-valve walking beam engine as in Rickenbackers car. The last photo shows the later 16-valve racing engine that has rocker arms on both sides actuating 8 valves on each side.....

More photos of Rickenbacker, first in a Peugeot that he raced after he left the Duesenbergs, next in one of the Maxwells he drove, this being at Indy in 1915. The last photo shows the Rickenbacker Car he built which never really was a sales success but I forget the reasons why.
