"Indian" internment compound at Fort Snelling in Minnesota,
1862. The army placed some 1,000 Souix in custody after
the Dakota War (aka Great Souix Uprising) that year. Most
were expelled from the state and their reservations there
nullified. 38 were hanged en masse in December. Leaders
Little Six and Medicine Bottle were caught in Canada and
hanged in 1865. Photo from Chuck's Toyland, a site main-
tained by Chuck Test, in part devoted to the collection of
early Minneapolis/St. Paul-area photographer and mega-
    photo-collector Edward Augustus Bromley.

The ol' Stude looks full to the gunwales, eh? Photo taken
about WWI-era is in the State Library of Queensland and
shows even men at Bulgroo, headed for Windorah, according
to a note on pic back. (Historical photo in public domain)

Er, uh, that's "seven" men. (But they're even men -- and straight, as well! LOL)

A little too stiff-upper-lip to be the Keystone Kops!
And a fly ride, too!!! Taken in Leeds, U.K., this shows
officers of the Leeds Police & Fire Service and appeared
recently on the site of the Surrey Vintage Vehicle
Society. The '13 Caddy tourer MUST have been the
    pride of Leeds' fleet!

That's on the Pike's Peak highway, Colorado Springs, about halfway up where the cars were allowed to stop, cool, and take on water if necessary. The Antlers Garage in Colo Spgs had a fleet of about 50 Pierces at one time, I am told, and TH's might be one of them. Here are some other mementos.

This 1911 Mercer looks like it did not end well.....It has a non standard cowl and seats so it is slightly modified. I could have started as either a Raceabout or a Runabout.

Lincoln Highway event, in a great LOC photo. From right to left, 1915 Packard, a Stutz, a Studebaker, and ??. The cars display the Lincoln Highway logo on banners, and also have pennants on their top boots. The Packard has the company's plate, 5062M. I wish I knew more about this particular event. Does anyone have anything on this they can share?

<style><!-- .hmmessage P { margin:0px; padding:0px } body.hmmessage { font-size: 10pt; font-family:Verdana } --></style>1912 CT plates were white on green; 1913 were white on blue. Hard to say which this was, but 1912 CT plate 12940 was issued to George W. Hill, of Stamford.

Here for your enjoyment is an inspiring photograph of Corduroy road to Oregon. It was made in 1909.

The photo illustrates a Man seated in a Buick roadster on trip through upstate N.Y.

This is an interesting image. It shows a policeman using a mirror to direct traffic at 14th St. and Pennsylvania Avenue, probably sometime in the 1920s. It also shows an interesting device that not only rotated to show “stop” and “go” messages to traffic, but included an umbrella for days when the sun was too intense

Interesting view inside a bike shop in California, 1940. Looks like they have something for all ages.
