Trying to figure out how to put it back together. This is what I have......... And, this is where it goes........... Does the square nut weld to the underside of the hood bracket? I'm obviously missing the hood spring. Does anyone have one or know where I could get one? I****ume you adjust the dowel by screwing it into the square nut and the other nut is simply a jamb nut? If anyone has a pic, that'd be really helpful!
You are missing the spring, but otherwise you have it in the correct order. Bottom nut (closest to pointed end) is used as a jam nut to adjust the depth the plunger goes into the latch. Square top nut goes on top and was tacked in place from the factory. But mine is broken loose from the welds too, which was good in my case as I had to egg out the hole some to get the plunger to align properly.
The missing spring seats in the silver cup piece on the bottom end and the circular depression there on the hood side.
Thanks Zax! Does the square nut weld to the bottom of the hood bracket, or the top? Hard to tell from the pic. Also, need to find a spring. Are they reproduced? Couldn't find any online.
The nut is welded to the bottom of the brace, the part you are looking at when the hood is openm. HRP
Thanks all for the clarification! The last thing I have to do today is weld in the square nut and clean it up a bit. Then epoxy primer, Slicksand and 2K hi build on all the front sheet metal and she's ready for color!
I would get it all adjusted and aligned before welding that nut on. I spent hours getting mine just right and had to enlarge that hole to get it in the right place.
I welded it in an hour ago! Hahaha! Oh well, it's only metal. It's tacked in a couple of spots. If need be I'll cut and adjust.
The nut has to be in place to get the adjustment right, mine was broken loose also. Mine was tack welded from the factory, I believe it had 4 small tack welds. HRP
