like the ***le says, need pics of heavily scalloped cars to get ideas for mine... all suede paint if possible, or F it, i dont care, basically, im lookin at colors, and scallop styles... tHANKS GUYS! oh, if it helps, goin on early 50s coupe...
I think one of the nicest, well planned, laid out, and painted scallop jobs I've ever seen is on a metallic green '61? Pontiac here in Long Beach. The owner painted it himself in the LBCC body shop and did "flamed scallops" where the scallops are faded thru different colors like flames are. He calls the car (or himself?) "The Catalina Kid" I don't have any pictures of it but if anyone does, please post them... It's *****in!
Stuff from the hard drive. I figure ideas should be shared... That said, if these are your pics and you object, my apologies. Let me know and I'll take them down. Here's some big bodies. Not quite what you're looking for year-wise, I realize.
I think it's always bothered me that when people do scallops, they do it in a coordinating color without outlining them. I think with a little something between them and the body color, would make them POP! Just my two cents. Especially when you start dealing with a darker colored car. **x Brandy
..pretty heavy The story told me by the builder of this car. Heindricks (spl?) a local painter in the SF Bay Area took a whole week to mask off the scallops on this car.
Hey, where did you take the pics of the brown Olds? That was my buddy Jon's car. He just laid them out on the original paint. Everyone loves it. Now my friend Tommy owns it.
We know how those old stories get exaggerated from back in the day, but Jerry said: "the masking was just about finished, but I met this chick that wanted a ride in the car. So to give her a ride, I ripped all the masking off and left a pile of paper and tape in the corner of the shop".
I really like the 'scallops over original colour' move. I didn't shoot the Olds myself. Where did I get that pic again... Sufing the net somewhere. Can't remember. Whoever took the shots did a fine job of camera holdin' though... In another shot it was sitting beside a nicely scalloped eggshell blue-green wagon that I've seen on here.
Hey, so does that mean that he masked off the brown scallops on the cream roof in 'negative', then sprayed the rest of the roof cream so that the original colour showed through as a scallop? I was thinking that I'd do that on my car!
That was THOM's wagon. He sold it last summer. So they are both rolling new cars this season. No, the roof was already cream. He just matched each color and and painted the scallops on each opposite colored surface.
