Send me some pictures and I can find out. There is also a vin number on the outside of the frame rail on the passenger side just ahead of the rear axle. Get a good flashlight some emery cloth and a pencil and paper to make a tracing and I will dig out the books

  4. ....neat thread, Internationals used what they called a Green Diamond Six
    engine.
...I like those 50-56 Internationals, specially if they are the shortbeds.
...Seabiscuit, the race horse, was trailered around the country in a 37 Buick 4-door made into a truck, nice job too. I'll try to find a pic to post.
...Rugby's are cool and someone should save that Packard "truck".

  5. ...this truck gets around, it was also at the Hunnert this year. One of my favorites at that show. Who owns it?...let's have some details.

I'll try to find the VIN, do you know what they had for engines? I'm guessing a six, but is there a possibility of a hemi? Mine is extremely rusted out, It sat in almost a foot of mud. I think is salvageable though.

No chance on the hemi. Could be a wedge or a 6-cylinder could even have been a slant 6? bu I doubt it since they just started putting them in cars in 1960. I have some of the side emblems for the hood and may have the front Desoto emblem also. Does yours still have the Desoto tailgate?

Here are some more oddball Desoto truck pictures!

Mine has the hood emblem, no tail gate, I was almost thinking of finding a '60 Dodge for a doaner, but finding a nice one is a hard around here.

Mine looks like the green '60, except for the bed, it's a 'styleside' as ford calls it.

I might have to make a run over to Omaha some day and take a look. The Desoto trucks were popular in central america so best chance is that it came up from there? They are still making Desoto trucks in Turkey but they are just licensed under the name by Chrysler and have liitle to do with current Chrysler vehicles.

I think it may have come from central america, I believe before it was in kansas, it was in florida, according to my friend in michigan. So there is a very good chance. Looking at the other pictures you posted, it looks like DeSoto lost their sense of 'style' in the 70's, what's the story on that '71?

The 71 was made by Askam in Turkey the same plant that makes them today with just about as much style. I have always said they look like they were made in a high school shop class. In the 60s they were operating in conjunction with Chrysler but by the 70s they were running the thing completely seperate. And ugly as hell

They do look like a shop class project, The good thing is if you were to restore one panels would be easy enough to make.

Here are a few pics of my 38' Willys pickup that I built just after graduating high school 15 yrs. ago. I can't believe that I still own it. It has your boring 350/700r4 combo, ps,pb,pw. Yeah I know not hamb friendly, but still very fun and unusual.

Nice truck, I'd have to say one of my favorites, next to the 57-60 Fords, and of course the '40 Willies truck.
