Pick up an old 389 1960 vintage for my a coupe project. It came out of an old 40 ford g***er out of Traverse City Mi. A few cool speed parts. Malory dual point, Elderbrock 2-4 intake, hurst engine mount. Has a solid lifter cam and some fancy push rods. It is getting put in front of a t-10.
A stocker with a 2bbl goes pretty darn good, that should be scary. FWIW, a '60 block will take later type side mounts if for some reason the Hurst won't work in your car.
I was reading the Pontiac Tech thread yesterday, it warned to be sure your transmission can hold up to the torque of that motor.
Cool... a 60, 389 will be great in a light ford. I've used 389's in several old mid 50s Pontiacs and I spent this evening putting together a 370 Poncho [ 1957, 347 bored .120 over to 1958 specs] for my 34 ford 5 window. Are you going to rebuild it or try it as-is? You scored big with the factory Pontiac manual transmission bell housing and flywheel stuff...that stuff is getting hard to find. I'm using '57 GMC clutch stuff for mine. What car is going in?
Any plans on going through the motor??? Rings, bearings, oil pump, timing chain an' gears and new gaskets???
Yea I am going to go through it . Keep it the same maybe find a 4-2 or 6-2 intake set up. The Hurst mount should fit, down in the duece rails ok. I bought a set of cal custom finned vavle covers from a Hamber ,that will go nicley.
