Not entirely sure if this story is completely correct, but I have been told and read that the main buyer of the Deluxe Pheaton in '31 was the L.A. Times for paper route distribution delivery vehicles. The fact that when one shows up for sale they usually are in the Western states would tend to support this as fact...
2 I like; That's me in the front seat on grandma's lap, about 1955 getting the Model A infection I've yet to shake.... Judy Garland driving the post office '32 in Girl Crazy! Oh yeah!
Here is my friends 34 tub he has owned for over 30 years. He drives it across country every year and is headed to Austin.
I'm kinda partial to this heap myself, Joe Barnett's T. Though my favorite style Pheaton would be a '33 / '34 Ford.
Not the best but I have fun with them. 37 phaeton is chopped, channeled, original carson top skeleton, hot flathead. 39 convert. sedan is slammed original drivetrain, dressed flatmotor, Columbia.
That 1937 Phaeton is VERY interesting. Do you have more photos and info on that one. Loks like an old Custom from the 1940's.
Wow. Now that's a cool Phaeton. They are still my favorite car, but they all seamed to have disappeared.
My familys Cord rocked and the Phaeton you've pictured closely resembles it.I love anything streamlined, even toasters.
Due to age and health issues, I sold my collection of '32 Fords as well as a fleet of Model T's. I figured that I would be another old guy who had owned some neat stuff once upon a time. However, this tender tub popped up and I had to have it. It was about 80% restored when the owner passed away. His family had no interest in the car, only what money it would bring. I made an offer they couldn't refuse, so now I own the car. I plan to tenderize it a little more with hydraulic brakes, '40 wheels, duals, down in front, tonneau cover, s**tcan the spare, and no top [it has a new one]. If I had wanted a top, I would have bought a 4 door sedan one hell of a lot cheaper!
Har to see in picture, wish i woulda go more shots :-( Hiding in a barn nearby. 36 with Carson top and big block chrysler. Cars been sitting since the sixtys now the barn roof is leaking. Owner has quite a collection and no interest in selling. Just goes to show that finds like this are still out there!
Good subject. Dick Falk's '35 is the top of my list: Second on the list would be Jake's '29, but I'd have to pimp it up some if it was mine.
Jake's tub set my on my way and after trading my Grandad's 28 Briggs body Fordor off for a ready to go tub body, I built this. First got it on the road late in '94.
Just saw this German built '35-'36 on Hemmings. Wow! (Clarifying the model year: of course it looks to me like a '35, but the seller says it's a '36, and sometimes European Fords differed a bit from US versions)
