so my OG plan was to weld up the holes from the Biscayne trim and leave the del ray...now I'm thinking I might leave it and not put no trim on... then years down the road if some one want to restore back to biscayne,... don't have to drill the hole s??? also, there a few dents that I was gonna fix....but If I can them patine.... can I just leave them....bet there's a story that goes with each and every dent.... be a shame to burry it in paint... also.... I not finding anyone that plates bumpers....is that in the past also???

it's about a grand for repops... maybe just paint them satin black????

It's your car of course but I think a set of chrome reverse wheels with staggered bias ply tires would be the bomb! Lower the front some and go burn rubber!

anyone know where to buy the metal paintable trim pieces for a del ray the go on the out side of the rear window??? i wanted to change the biscayne stainless, I thought you could just pull the stainless, bit it's what holds the window channel in.... the took the pieces off the door... but the side rear window pieces have to stay..

another what can or should I do?? I want this to be a bracket drag car.... the bumpers???? new re pops are 1000... I'm buried in this car already, and don't wanna spend the money.... they'rusted and pitted.... should I grind them down and paint them black??? I don't think theres a chrome shop in vegas... and what I heard a while back was they just sent them to mexico????

    IMG_3548[9101].jpg IMG_3558[9108].jpg IMG_3589[9116].jpg

also, like I said above... I'm getting rid of all the biscayne stainless around the side windows. and the windshield and rear window.....so it's pretty much gonna be de-chromed...

well, here's my 3 weeks progress report... not really 3 weeks working, I took a week off to go to utah to look at colored leaves and go shopping.. it was my wifes bithday and I siad I'll do what ever you want me to for a week...lol...you can't take that back once it's out there...
anyway... got the windshield in.. straightend the grille.. cleaned and painted under the hood a little.. sanded the pits off the bumpers and painted them black.. still can't find a chrome shop... rally starting to like the no side trim look... but I got a lot of work to do before I worry about that.. it's supposed to be a fresh 365 hp 327...4 speed... haven't drove it yet but the prev. owner drove it on the trailer when I bought it..... waiting on the rubber to install the rear glass.. so all in all pretty happy with the first 3 weeks of owner ship

I try not to criticize someone else's car, but you said all comments welcome. ;)
If it were me I'd start saving up for better bumpers or to get the originals rechromed, a '58 Chevy (for that matter any 1958 GM car) was designed around having lots of chrome. North Star Plating in Minnesota does a good job on bumpers and I think they're competitively priced. They are associated with LKQ, and I *think* you can drop off bumpers at a local LKQ facility so you don't have to pay for shipping costs, but you'd have to ask about that (they're basically local to me so I've just dropped bumpers off in person.)
I suspect in your sunny climate that the flat black paint is going to look pretty chalky pretty soon. It may be a cliché but the white '58 in American Graffiti was a good look, and a white car would be more comfortable in Las Vegas temperatures.

I've never been a fan of '58 Chevys or '58 Fords for that matter but that car is MEAN looking!

I'm luv'n your response... as for the bumpers... they were pitted and rusty... so I painted them to get by for a while... and keep them from getting worse.... new re pops are 500 each... and still got to decide on the side chrome.... leaning towards delray single spear.... or nothing at all...I've a lot bigger fish to fry on the 50-ocho..before worrying about bumpers... so at least it's not a belly button 58... and the plan is a quarter mile/ street racer...... and thanks again for the LKQ info.... my shop use's them...

I think you are making great progress. My vote is for chrome bumpers when you get ready for the decision.

You said good or bad comments, so here you go. I think the stance and wheels look great. But the tires with the white letters Looks like a muscle car from the 90s or 80s time period. I'm sure there's a powder coating shop in Vegas and you can get the bumpers Powder coated Chrome, and they look pretty good for cheap.

thanks for the reply, and like I said good or bad...If I do a car that everyone likes I'd do it over...there's a lot about this car that i'm on the fence about,,, mostly because it's such a survivor... I kinda think stuff like, if you don't like 58 Biscayne's why did you buy it...so,.. slow to weld up the holes... and starting to think I don't want any side chrome... beings it's satin black, could just leave it with the holes ,.. then someone down the road that wants a restored biscayne won't have to drill new ones...the other thing is might have to make it an automatic, got surgery coming on my knees and shoulders .... so might be a long time recovery...if I make it.... so probley better to send it packing...
