found a great deal on a 51 331 hemi on craigslist. motor is in great shape. looks like all it needs is bearings, rings and heads gone over. I don't know what I will use it for. Maybe future g***er project. I love Vintage power plants.
Don't sell that longbell short !We had one in a '40 Willys coupe and then put it in a '27 T altered. It was out to 404 with a stroker and a .125 overbore , triple nickel heads and howards M-5 cam.backed by a Cad/Lasalle box. Pretty hard on clutches but when in good tune , it sang a sweet song. Someone , somewhere does a "cut off" of the bell and welds a steel adaptor plate to the now shortened block so a guy can bolt a Lakewood can to it. It Is a Hemi !!
If you want to run a long bell heminwith a manual Trans , that's about as simple as any of the adapters get. Autos and the long bell are rougher
Hotheads sells all kinds of them. A great resource for your build! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Have you considered how much re-machining must be done after you pay someone else to cut off and weld on a plate? With the amount of pre-heating that would be required to do a good weld job every surface on and in the block would need fixin'. Try to find oversize cam bearings... There is NO advantage to this, even if you just won the lotto. .
I had a speed gems adaptor for a 331 to T10, at least thats what was bolted to it when I got it. It sold very quick so I don't know how rare they are but can say they do exist. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!

Plus... the guy doing the work better know his stuff. Cutting off an extended block to match a 54 or later block is not going to work...as the crankshafts are different lengths between the 51-53 and the 54 and later.
I thought they stopped cutting the bells off right around the same time they stopped using knurled pistons? I've just seen one picture of that process.
