Very cool. Makes me wonder if the Classic Car Club has a footnote in the list of classics excluding these from full classic status...if not, imagine one of those over restored to the max parked next to a DV 32 for judging...

  6. I'd thought about that...
a delivery van at Pebble Beach.... hahahaha

A friend of mine has one of these in his barn. I wondered about it once, thinking of what you could make out of it.

Keep it an icecream truck theme?
    Milk man?
    etc

have fun with it, you won't see another one at a show

Pretty sure I saw a pic of one of these or at least something very similar on one of the vintage pic threads.. Maybe here or on FordBarn. Can't find it now though. It was a delivery van for a milk company and the driver was sweeping up something that had been spilled.
    Ring any bells??

I have seen uglier ears turned into silk purses on the HAMB. Where I grew up all the (electric) milk trucks had standing driving positions.

The pak-age car was Stutz's last gasp to try to survive. They were still produced after Stutz's bankruptcy in 1936 but by whom I do not know.

A little shag carpeting and a Conan the barbarian mural on the side would be killer.

Alright a truck an "oldgoaly" can love! Well with a last name of Thorne, yep like the Gas-Electrics, oh yea I know Jay and Dale Christ. Is the Stutz mechanical drive? or Electro-mechanical as the Thorne some of the Wards. Does it have the "Thorne" insulated walls? 26 gauge galvanized sheet/ 1/4" plywood/ 26 gauge sheet (up that was considered insulated) I don't know how much I can help, got a copy of just about everything on a Thorne, if it's electromotive I'll get you Bif's info, his Dad was the head engineer at Thorne and Hertner Electric (battery chargers) he is a wealth of information! restore one and make the other Go Fast! guess I better hit the subscribe button!

I kinda agree with the restore one to like new condition and rod the other one.

With less than 10 left, the restored one should bring good $$ .

  22. As simple as the body is I don't think it would be hard to fab repair parts, but it does make sense to sell one to restore, maybe with spares from the other, and that one become a rod. What about a reversed FWD drivetrain, like an Eldo or Toronado, in the back?

  23. The engine is a small flathead 4 cylinder water cooled Lycoming with a transaxle and halfshafts. Similar to Corvette with a transverse spring.

The wall construction sounds similar to the Thorne. It has 2"X2" Oak framing around the window and door openings but not much else for wall framework.

    Here's what I've found:

The 1st model was actually known as a Pac-Kar, built in Chicago in 1926. It had a 7 hp 2 cylinder horizontally opposed engine mounted in the rear. By 1932 the Pak-Age-Car Corporation was in financial trouble, and was bought out by Stutz.

The first 28 Stutz vehicles in a total order of 340 were completed by the summer of 1936. But this wasn't nearly enough to keep things going, Stutz declared bankruptcy in April 1937.

Spring of 1938 Pak-Age-Car was sold to Auburn Central Company, (what remained of Auburn - Cord - Duesenburg).

August 1938 the PAC-AGE-CAR Corporation of Connersville was formed as a subsidiary of Auburn and production moved to Auburn's idle Connersville plant.

Diamond T Truck Company was contracted to handle sales and service since Auburn no longer had a dealer or service network. Diamond T sold many of the Connersville built trucks during the next several years.

Cool find and RARE!! According to
what I've read on the web, there
are apparently only about six actual
    Stutz-badged 'Pack-age Cars' known
to still exist. I wonder if the two you've
found are part of these previously
accounted for six, or if you've stumbled
upon the up to now unknown about ,
    numbers 7 and 8??!!

Here's a pic of one from 'back in the
    day
    ' - of a '37 Stutz 'Pack-age Car'
    milk truck, taken in 1939.
