I picked up my Desoto hemi earlier tonight but cant seem to track the casting numbers down. Did a search on here and some other sites but the block number doesnt seem to come up.

I cant make out the stamped number but the casting number appears to be 132742 and maybe a 5? It came with a 2bbl intake and carb and is suppose to be a 56 330. Any idea what it really is? It's loaded in pieces in the back of the truck right now so it wil prob be the weekend before I get it dug out if more numbers are needed. Also still waiting on the crankshaft as he couldnt put his hands on it just then so we'll see.

I also got a big cast iron bellhousing , flywheel, clutch and a dual point distributor with it that he said he had pulled from a truck many years ago at a junk yard. Can the bellhousing be adapted to a Ford Toploader 4 speed or is it a paperweight?

    sure the 5 isn't a 9?

    1327429 is a 276

wilcap sells an adapter to run a ford toploader behind your hemi, but it doesn't require using that heavy cast iron bellhousing

If it turns out to be a 276 is it worth spending all the money to rebuild it or should I look for one of the larger cubic inch ones to use?

It will cost the same to rebuild or hot up, it's your call but I would do it anyway,a 276 Hemi has more cred than a SBC in any size.

About the paper weight, do a search here. I read a thread that the truck b/h was somehow used to adapt a modern trans. About the casting #'s,..1332742? is a 276. The 291 casting # starts with 1558,..the 330 starts with 1636,...the 341 starts with 1856. The only other odd # is 1328829 and that is a 241 Dodge/Ply/DeSoto poly block #.
I hope this helps. Good Luck.
