Great find. If that car had been sitting outside for that long around here you might be able to salvage the top three or four inches of the doors. As for paying too much for the decklid you have to figure your total investment in the car. You'd have to pay $3,000 or $4,000 for that decklid for it to be too much. I like 35/36's both ways. But since the majority seem to be voting for custom, check out the Rodder's Journal #26 page 94 for my favorite 35/36 hot rod.
No way! I think I seen that car in a mag! I think it was the one cause thats exactly what it looked like, and its sitting in front of the same shed thing, just didnt have the other car there
That's a sweet start and a better price, I'd trade a wife that's only been used 35 years straight up. I have been collecting parts for my '41 business coupe for 3 years and I think I'm ready to get on with it. Oh and you say you paid too much for your trunk lid, I paid too much for my car and then paid too much for my trunk lid too, my bad but I'm learning this is my first build and have way too much money in it but it's worth it to me. Good luck on your build either way you decide to go.
I have decided to make it a custom. I bought a hood and a full set of fenders for it now. The back fenders I bought are pretty nice and the price was really REALLY good. I will post pics later.
What a nice start on a 3 window. I can't get over how solid it looks and i'll betcha 3 of those fenders can be saved (minus the p***. front) with some judicious hammer & dolly work. P.S. Got me a new screensaver too!
That's a mean score, good for u. My vote would be a Kustom. Either way u go good luck, looks like a solid start.
Since the majority is voting custom and I'm never the one to follow the crowd my vote is for hot rod. The '38 Deluxe that I got from Fuelpump (formerly owned by Harrison) is on it's way to become what a highschool drop out or recent grad working in a gas station in about 1959 would have built. It's going to get a 283 (301) with an adaptor to a '39 3 spd floorshift and a '40 rearend and front spindles for the hydraulic brakes. I just scored a NOS Duntov cam and a restored Rochester 4bbl/intake and a set of ram horn manifolds for duals. A rebuilt 12V generator and a NOS regulator will take care of the charging. My goal is to have it complete and reliable for next years HCP. Frank
What most of you don't know is this young man is still in high school, there is 43 years difference between us, and I'm proud to call him a friend!!! I have been helping him out and he has helped me out too. He is a quick study and before long I believe his talents will surp*** me. The bad thing is we live a 100 mile apart, makes it tough to get together!! Like I told you I don’t want to influence you ( custom )
Cool deal. He sounds like me. "I got the car for free".....but I think I gave too much for the trunk lid. Your learning fast. Lippy
Guess I know why Tom was hittin' me up for a decklid a while back. Good score on the '35, thats 10K worth of 3 window any day of the week. ...oh and HOT ROD
You have already said custom, but here's another Hot Rod vote.... Very nice score, you should be busy this winter!
To late for that I've looked up to you since you gave me a ride in the roadster all those years ago. I owe most of my style to you.
wow. what a beauty. that first pic looks FAKE it's so cool. great score. sounds like that dude is cool.
Very cool story, that comes with a very cool project! I wish you all the best in your build! Keep us posted!
I have finally started to work on the coupe a little bit. I am going to the Hot Rod Ins***ute at the end of september and I will be taking it with. While Im there the plan is to get a rolling ch***is and chop the top.
at the local junkyard there was a '36 fourdoor that I had thought about trying to buy some parts off of. A couple months ago I went out there to take some parts off a Fairlane for my dad and I noticed the '36 was gone. I went back to the office and I asked the guy what happened to it and he said his sons almost crushed it that morning but they decided to just move it out of the way and crush it later. So I offered to buy it from him and now I finally brought it home.
