Pickups with dropped axles

I've got one of your 4" axles, Sid. I'll post pics once I get it in at some point this summer.

 

Here is a 1960 Ford pickup that I just got done dropping. It has one of my 3" dropped axles and a Posie Dual-flex spring up front. The rear end has the front rear spring hangers flipped and moved to top of frame. I reversed the eyes on the main leaf. The rear end is still under the spring.

We run a 3" drop axle from CPP with Durant mono springs.
Not a problem.

 

3"axle from SIDS and mono leaf springs. I don't have any bump steer but the ride is indeed harsh.. In fact, it rides like shit over even the mildest of uneven roads.
I'm thinking of going back to stock springs with a couple of leaves removed. I'd like to try Posies 3" springs but I'm not sure it'll actually drop the front end down to where it is now.
I have a flipped axle with Posies springs in the rear and like them, though, so I might bite the bullet and get a set for the front. I can always remove a leaf from them...

 

We've used the 3" axle and Posie dual-flex springs on a few AD trucks now. They ride really good. You may need to bend the steering arm on the left side for the drag link when using the Posie dual-flex. The drag link needs to be as level and parralel as posible to the frame so you don't have bump steer

 

That's the perfect stance for an AD truck Rich. Great looking truck too. I may have to save that photo for my "here is how they should sit" file

Well that bright assed idea didn't work like I thought it would but it does show me somewhat what an AD truck will look like chopped, sectioned and stretched in the cab.

Sids 2.5" drop axle with mono leafs with reversed eyes. Gonna swap the mono's out with Posie twin springs over the winter

Sid, I had visited your site for the first time about a month ago after I bought my 65 Dodge Utiline (short narrow bed). When I saw the difference between the early D-100 axle and the 68-71, it looked like an easy (but small) drop would be to simply use a later d-100 axle on an early truck. Is that doable and if so, does it gain anything?

Looked great...Rode terrible.

So added 2 leafs back which helped some.

New L78s on rear, G78s front

 

I'm running one of Sid's 3" axles on mine, I also first tried it with mono-leafs but the ride was just......well....jarring! I went back to the stock spring pack with 3 leafs removed, poly liner in between the leafs. The mono's were a little lower but just not worth it for me.

 

'56 with 4'' Mor-drop.

 

I will be posting pictures after i get an axle from Sid. Besides i need to pay him for his customer service answering all my first timer questions.

Both were Sid's 3 inch drops. Had a local ace install. Both drove and stopped straight. Chalupa had a mono leaf ( rode hard ), removed a leaf or two from the 59 ( rode well )

 

3" axle from Sid's w/ the tierod drops and 2 leafs pulled. Rear is dearched with axle still under springs.

 

4" axle by Sid and rear flip to level.

Here is my latest project. 1960 Ford big back window. It has in the front one of my 3" dropped axles and a new set of Posie Dual-Flex springs. The rear has the front rear spring mounts flipped and moved to the top of the frame. The main leaf springs have reversed eyes and the overload springs removed. I'll post better pics when I get it out of the shop and driving. I'm sure the front springs will settle a little after I drive it.

 

I had a 3inch drop axel with reverse mono and center bolt placement moved forward to center wheel in fender...the rear had stock mono with extended Y hangers and moved front of rear leaf hanger to top of the frame rail. Tires I ran fronts 205 65R15 rear 245 70R 15

 

Here is a 49 F-1 that I had earlier this year, Speedway axle with de-arched springs front and rear.

 

Mine on a 3" Sid's dropped axle and reverse eye Mono leafs.

 

BTTT

 

Front is 4in drop axle with flipped leafs and 3 removed. Rear is flipped leafs with 4 removed and raised hangers.

 

Fronts 4 inch drop axle with flipped leafs 2 removed and main leaf is reverse eyed with spring bolt hole moved 1.25 inches forward. Rear is mid fiftys 5 inch drop leaf kit with the leafs flipped. Yes i like my trucks low ha

 

Also both trucks have 2 inch tie rod drop blocks and i had to heat and bend the steering arms. i also had to make a new oil pan to clear the axles
