We didnt plan on going until about Wed, so we made no reservations which made the trip much more of an adventure, just ask my wife! We decided on Friday to take off after I got off work, we left home about 4:30 with hopes of getting to Galesburg Ill by dark, which we did but we found that the motels in Galesburg had NO VACANCIES due to a tour of the villages. As luck would have it a good friend of mine lives in Galesburg and saw us go through town and recognized the 88 on the doors and followed us to the last motel we checked, he invited us to his place and was a little upset we hadnt came there first, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING KENNY, he really saved me from the wrath of my wife................ We left his place Sat. morning at it was about 36 degrees and about an 80 mile an hour windchill when we hit the interstate, someone ask why we didnt slow down, but I found in the roadster that 55 mph is just as could as 80 but takes longer to get there. We made it to Morris for the traffic jam but was fortunate enought to get in, unlike some. This was our first pile up but it wont be the last....................I have read alot of complaints on here and granted the traffic ****ed, the weather ****ed, and some of the cars were interesting at best BUT, it was a great show for a great cause and the red shirts done a helluva job considering the amount of people and cars, I tip my hat to each and everyone of them. I have been to alot of shows and there are always cars there that I have no interest in, but they belong to someone that is very proud of their accomplishment and I can appreciate that, and yes there were some people that looked odd and were probably posers, but they were nice to us, which is more then I can say for the funny dressers at the NSRA and Goodguy show,"straw hat gold chain flowered shirt characters." My wife and I had a great time, we enjoyed the people almost as much as the show its self, and there were a lot of well built traditional cars more then you see at your normal midwest car shows. We are definetly looking forward to next year, probably with a little more planning, but maybe not sometimes its more fun flying by the seat of your pants. THANKS CHROME CZARS FOR A GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You enjoyed the people!!! See - THAT is what this is about in my opinion..... of course you can see other great cars at other shows - but the PEOPLE at the Hunnert are all very cool - no at***udes - That is probably the main thing about this show that I love........ The crowd is there to look at cars - but also know that we are ALL into this scene together. Glad you were able to hook up with your buddy in Galesburg! I would think it hard to sleep in that thing!
Roadsterpilot- so glad you guys enjoyed the show. And i have to say it's refreshing to read your commentary on the show and not find a bunch of negative feedback. That's what the show is all about, showing up and having a great time with like minded hot rodders. Glad to hear you're planning to come back next year! Beautiful roadster, by the way!
Jerrod, always enjoy seeing you, wish we would have had more time to talk. Your roadster looks kick-*** as always. Gary
Ha, ha, ha,.....That is a funny!! It is kool to hear that you had a good trip. Gotta get me a Roadster someday. Thanks for posting the pics. Happy Trails, Mick
Boy, that's an understatement. I got a few pics of your car but it took a while; there was ALWAYS a crowd around it. That's a "Deuce Roadster Done Right!" From a grateful spectator's point of view just let me say Thanks for being there.
Roadsterpilot is that shrink wrap around your top??Cool car sounds as id you had a good time and you guys took from the show what it is all about. The people, good times and making good friends.
I was the goofball that drew on your and your wife in marker on the way in. Your roadster was one of the many highlights of the weekend for me. Glad you made the trip!
Me and 16 year gearhead stepson attended Hunnert for first time in 07 and the cool people were the most impressive thing about the whole show. When we attend a "goodguys" type show and he goes to look at some 100K muscle piece of ****, you can just see the idiot in the white shirt sitting on his lawn chair behind it get nervous cause he's afraid he might touch or breathe on it. While at Hunnert in 07, I turned around to see him leaned over a flathead talking to a guy with a purple roostertail and another with a cowboy hat. The playing field is very level and very laid back and cool. It's all about being a gearhead and not the amount of dollars you throw at some shop to make your car just to prove your **** is bigger. I don't have to prove that, just ask any of my ex's. Slick Willy
Gary its always good seeing you, wish I would have run into you sooner, the wagon always looks great, cant wait to see the 40. Mick ya need to get in on this roadster business, you know you have travlin partners when you are ready................. Yes thats shrink wrap, I use it to keep the moisture out "frost" and rain, it works real well. When I went out to put it on, on Sat. night a woman and her husband walked past and both were pretty snobby, she stopped and ask me, "are you doing that for a reason", before I even could stop myself I told I was trying to figure out how many times I could go around my car with a roll of shrink wrap, if looks killed I would be dead now.
Thanks for all the nice comments, sometimes I think we all forget what this hobby was and is all about, its not just about the cars, but how they bring us all together, most of the friends that I have, I have met because of cars otherwise we wouldnt even know each other, so thats the best part.
Hey kool thoughts on the show roadster pilot #48. We luv to travel that way cause a wrong turn can be more fun. Nice to meet your real wife this time. Not that skinny white haired old runnin mate you normaly pilot around with. But I like him too. Did you run home with your head out like a dog to stay awake? I am just kiddin it was geat to see you. Lets do a roadster pilot cult cruise to anywhere the leaves are turnin. I got a few other pilots who think their tuff enough. I got a spare roadster for Mick even. B-Scott Roadster Pilot #32, #01 , #32B(wifes can play too).
The Hunnert is with out a doubt the coolest show there is. No at***ude, no ********, just cool cars and cooler people. Wasn't there this year but look forward to next year. Thanks for the pictures. Later, ****
AAHhhhhhhhhh!! I would never be the same if I got behind the wheel of a Roadster. Please don't call me, I'm going to Dreamland. Happy Trails, Mick
