Pardon me for being ignorant but could someone tell me about gassers? They really look cool to me. Is there a specific function or reason to run the straight axel and jack up the rear or is it just about making the car look different and cool. I mean no disrespect to anyone. Those cars look like they are going to jump up and blow your doors off. COOL!

  7. Having a straight axle and a high atitude aren't exclusive traits of a gasser. They can be used on any drag car for rapid weight transfer from front to rear to increase traction at the driving end of the car.
When gasser racing began to evolve back in the Pleistecene age it was quickly noted that things like raising the front of the small light weight car especially with a straight axle and leaf springs plus light duty shocks and moving the engine rearward all helped to plant the rear of the car on acceleration and get it launched quickly.
You can apply this information to any straightline racer.
