G'day, I'm looking for pics for inspiration. I have cycle guards on the rear of my 28 A sedan, but they are problematic. I want to replace them with something fixed, but bobbing original guards is not practical due to the wheel tubs being moved inwards by about 3" by some previous butcher. I guess I'm looking at building them from scratch, but kinda needing some design ideas. Anyone?
Could you do any good with a pair of coupe/truck/roadster fenders? they bolt to a flat surface unlike the sedan/ phaeton fenders. They are also wider at the top.
get todd to send some pictures of the rear fenders i sold him the bolted up to my A pickup were modified a wee bit but youll get the idea
I have to pick them up for Todd when I go to get the rest of my/our stuff from Wanganui ( when the rain stops?) and I am going home via Marty's place...so he will get to see them. I will also have my RPU fenders on board...
Here's a few pics of my coupe. Back when I built it, you had to have fenders in the state of PA. They've lifted that requirement in recent years but I've left them on...kinda got used to the look, I guess. Bobbed rear fenders have their own problems like tire clearance...moving up and down and with body roll. I like the look of your current rears...whats the problem? As mentioned already, I do think coupe fenders might fit your tubs.
Most fiberglass fender guys sell extra wide rears fenders (guards). The nice thing about glass is you can cut and fab it to fit you needs without a ton of banging and welding. For my money bobbed stock style fenders look the best on the rear. I've seen guy try to adapt cycle or flat fenders to the rear. To me they look like a boat trailer with a hot rod body attached.
A mate of mine here has a '29 roadster and he has cycle gaurds.. but he got some fibreglass and rolled it over his tires and then i guess screwed that to some thin sheet metal, and made cycle gaurds with that.. so he effectively has cycle gaurds but they look exactly like the tires hes running.. so when the cars not moving you can't even tell they are there at all.
IMO, rear cycle fenders work better on channelled cars, otherwise bobbed rear stock fenders look better. Nothing looks worse that trying to hide them, ie, painting them black (unless the car is black, of course), trying to make them "look" like the tire, ect. Bobbed fenders on the back with cycle fenders on the front can look REALLY good, if they are integrated into the look of the car. Take a look at flthd 31's car above. The fenders are a big plus, look 100% period, and make the car stand out from the lowing herd.
Yeah yeah, lets pick on the fat guy aye You skinny buggers have no heart. I may end up with some surplus guards if some of my scheming comes together but it could be a couple of months away. The ones Leakers has are for the RPU.
Here in New Zealand it is law to have fenders (guards) unless you get a fender exemption. However to get that you need to belong to a NZ Hot Rod Assn affiliated club and jump through their hoops. At this point that does not suit me. I would respectfully disagree about fenderless looking better, that black A coupe in this thread looks about as good as it's possible to get.
