Ok, I need some inspiration fellas, I am about to embark on my first project and im not rich by far, it wont be in street rod mag ever, jsut hope to get one running some day. So can you guys post some pics of low dollar projects for inspiration, maybe under $5,000 to get on the road, I think I can swing it. I would be doing all the work. It will be A frame T body, may buy the stude rpu bodyin the classifieds and do a mod just to be different plus its local. Inspire me guys..show me its possible. Also looking for a flathead in nor cal pm me if you got one
The king of low buck rides has got to be Tex Smith's Dollar-per-pound roadster. The paint was a later addition, but he did build it for about $2000 dollars.
here's a link to a few links of a little project I started a couple months ago. my modified series I bought all the parts through the local papers and swap meets. took about six months to collect the parts and a month to get it to look like a car. I'm working on other stuff now while I gather parts and plan the finish. Paul
I'm in this one with tail lights, tires, uhpolstery, Glass, hub caps, lakers, split manifold, and brakes $1270. the 93,000 original miles 49 Pontiac was a freebie.and ZAPATO punched 170 louvres no charge but I owe him a favor, that always helps. even if i paid $1500 I'd still be under 3 grand. it's not a cool hot rod but its a great driver Hell yes its for sale
1918 Dodge. i don't know exactly what he had into it but i am sure it was under 5k. ofcourse it'll cost you 3 times that if you wanted to buy it off him now ...
this one was on the cover of Rod and custom and it was built for LESS than 5k. it ran at B-ville and is beautiful. the owner is a good friend and put the car together from parts other people where throwing away. he is AMAZING with sheet metal. ALOT of sweat equity in this one...
What's low $ now days? There's a guy locally that builds some really nice rides. I doubt you could get anything for much less than 80K and I'm sure that most of his clients pay $125,000. and up. I tip my hat to those out there that can build a nice driver for less than $5000., I'm assuming they do most of the work themselves. But for some of us that have to farm out some of the major work that's a tough budget. Project cars are bringing a few grand around here amd you're lucky to find anything remotely rust-free. I'm sure I've got an easy 10K into my '49 Fleetline, and I consider that pretty low $ by comparision for a done car (although there's things I still plan on doing to it). I guess it's all relative.
About $450 in it so far...another $500 or so should put it on the road. Built mainly from donated parts and scrounged up pieces...the money is tied up in all the small shit...the car, motor, trans, radiator, etc came from friends!
He will have to confirm this, but the "PeterBeater" built by flatheadpete, comes in around $3K, if I am not mistaken.
Take one $300 truck add $1200 in misc parts and an ass load of labor and this is what you get. I love that Dodge modified I have the very same body stashed waiting to become a modified
-1953 Chevy 3100 5 window $3700, traded a fiberglass 32 go-kart for $1K so total truck was $2700 -80 camaro front clip - included -running 283 sbc with muncie 4sp - $500 (then sold muncie for $500 so motor was free) -TH400 tranny, $200 - Misc parts $900 - TOTAL=$3800 All I have left is cost to repair my radiator which is at the shop now. Goal was under $4k but I think I'll be a little over 53 pick up
No prices, but you might get some ideas from Nicanor's page here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/nicanor/images/rods/Rods.htm
Sweet rides guys, anybody got pics of a studebaker rpu or mod thats channeled, dropped, etc. Just want to see if it would look good or not or if I should wait to get another body.
[ QUOTE ] What did this one end up costing ? The budget was $999 but i think we went just a little bit over that with all the beer and pizza figuredin [/ QUOTE ]
