Anyone have a pic of how they made headlight stands out of a headlight bar? Trying to figure out how to mount my headlights without it looking "cobbled" (that a W V term) Toqwik
Just cut, heat, bend and weld? I like the style of the 1st pic. will any model A headlight bar make these? can't even remember what they look like. Thanks
Tommy, what is the painted phillips head screw on top of the frame as well as the two cad plated ones at the bottom of the frame for? Looks like there's a circular thing in between the two as well.
I've just done mine with a '31 bar. I cut the ends off just before the lamp cups, then rounded off any rough bits on the cups. Bolt the ends to the ch***is and lay the bar on top of the ends and weld. I'll post a couple of pictures when I get home.

[/ QUOTE ] Looks like an F-1 (or similar) shock mount is bolted to the bottom of the frame with the two cad plated bolts, then maybe a piece of tubing in between to tie the two flanges together. Interesting way to attach a shock mount. Neal

The traditional shock mount is not bolted to the side of the frame, but is bolted to the bottom flange of the frame with the hex head bolts through the round spacer flange. The round spacer ties the upper and lower frame flanges together for strength. Without it the lower flange would just bend and finally break. I can't find the picture from the other side. It's very cool the way the shock mount comes out from underneath the frame with no visible means of support. All very traditional parts done in a different way using traditional techniques. It would have been easier just to box the horn and weld in threaded bungs. I was impressed. This was one of those very traditional basic black 32 3W's that had the level of detail that made it stand out in a sea of 3W's
Thanks. That is cool. Thought for a bit the mount was done backwards from the usual as a styling exercise, but it looks if you mounted the threaded end forward, the piece dropping out of the frame from the mount would be right over - or close to - the axle. Started collecting parts for another roadster build somewhere down the line. If I ever get my hands on an F1, oughta steal the shock mounts and weld some plain brackets on the F1....
It probably took an hour to make. I ground a rebate into the tops of the stands for the bar to 'sit' into before welding. The bar was positioned on the stands so that the cups tilt forward so that the lamps mounts properly.
