Here's a pic after leaving Viva show on Monday. We blew a tire almost getting hit by a van that wasn't paying attention. They slid off the highway skidding into the dirt. Luckily we didn't get hit. The wimpy four way that we had could not budge the impacted on lug nuts. Two guys from the show (said they are on the Hamb from Indiana) I think one goes by Von Dust, had a big floor jack and a breaker bar. They definitely saved our butts. All I can say is thanks fellas. This is what hotrodding is all about.

Hey man! That's a friggin cool pic!
That's the last time that jack made it out of the trunk of the Desoto, but before our trip was over... or even before New Mexico, the tool box made it out many, many times with Mike in the roadster breaking down. It finally got to the point where he blew a head gasket and there was Metalman at our mercy, offered his shop to use that night. Karma is a good thing.
You guys are great and we enjoyed helping ya out. You're right, this is what hot rodding is all about, offering help whether someone needs it or not.
Hope your guys' trip went well the rest of the way :)

That picture should be duplicated, blown up, and sold. That's what HotRod memories are made of. Though it seemed fucked up at the time, You'll always remember that day. Great picture and BITCHIN cars!

Yes that is indeed VonDust and Hoover, they were following a long Indy Road Rocket tradition. As Road Rockets we have been very fortunate to travel all over the country, never afraid to drive thousands of mile to reach a show. During this time of long distance traveling we have helped and been helped ourselves by some of the nicest people in the US and they all answer to the name "hot-rodder." We hope that this is all the trouble you had with your very nice shoebox (and yes the flames are awesome)!!! For those that may have forgotten I drove the Studebaker last year from Indy to Huntington Beach.

Bad ass picture, I remember slobbering all over those flames at the show......I hope my slobber did not leave water spots.

Glad you did not get whacked by the van and that everything worked out.

  30. Glad you're OK with no damage! It's times like that you remember. Curious to what kind of tire you were running. They look pretty new, what brand and how old was it?
