Talk about memories rushing back...way back...I'm talkin' waaaaaa-aaaaaaaay back in about 1955, or 1956...

When I was just a youngster, my Dad (and his family of five) was rolling up a state highway in Iowa, on the way to visit one of his brothers in Wall Lake, Iowa. We were in Dad's two toned '49 Merc and blew a tire...we had to get off the rode just like that in the pic above and the car was at such an angle he couldn't get it changed. Up rolls three "hoodlums" in a chopped '50 Ford...we didn't know what to expect, but they asked Dad nicely if he needed help. They got the tire changed while the family waited against the fence...when they were done, they handed Dad a small business car, it read, "You've been helped by a member of the Road Angels car club." Dad offered money and thanked them, but they wouldn't accept anything but a handshake...

So, REAL hot rodding is alive and well, via the HAMB...

You hit that right on. I guess thats why I like the H.A.M.B. and car people so much. It seems were a shrinking group and we all will help when we can.

    COOL pic!

I like the aged picture, makes it timeless. no way to tell what decade it might have been taken in.

  4. Great pic, aged one as well - glad everything worked out.

The Indy dudes are the coolest for sure.

Here's a hint that my Dad taught me years ago during a breakdown with multipal cars pulled over on a road with other cars cruzn by.

All the cars behind the breakdown car need to be back quite a bit, and seperated, incase a car whizzing by is not paying attention. Not only will it help to avoid ALL the cars getting smashed and smashing up the people that are hanging out at the brokendown car BUT helps to slow down the traffic cuz they are getting a longer reaction time to the flashers on the cars that are spread out on the side of the road. The cars are acting like those little safety triangle things. With ample notice truckers will pull over to the left lanes to pass the group too.

Just alittle safety hint brought to you by "Denise's Dad":D

Very cool pic, all of them!! I know people that are putting it on their screen saver. (thanks Walt!)

How about a poster, look good in the office....or would you lose too much of the res. ? Could have something about the hamb/fellowship imposed (?? right term??) somewhere small on it.

that picture needs to be on the calender, the old version of it, with the aged look that could have been taken in the 50's ,the whitewall tire they are holding adds to the illusion. once in a while you get one of those one in a million shots. :D

Haha, yea, we had to turn around. By the time I noticed the shoebox on the side of the road, I was going a little too fast to get all four drums to grab. On 93 there, each "crossover" point in the middle of the highway seems like 5-8 miles apart. Mike was following me in the roadster while we had to go a few miles to turn around, then head back up 5-8 miles again before we could turn around again... so we past the guys on the side of the road twice before we got a chance to actually stop. It was worth it though, they are great guys and we had fun helping out.

Wow I just read what happened to the Indy guys. Boy Karma is in effect. The shoebox belongs to a buddy of mine. (Stubby) We drove all the way through to Phoenix and on to Austin to the roundup. We drove a total of 3000 miles on our journey. I would say that was the most eventful and entertaining twelve days that I won't forget.

Its amazing how one random pic from one event can sum up the feeling of this community,it should be a HAMB calander photo.Everything fell into place at that one time to create a telling story. awesome.

Haha... yea, that's for damn sure!
Can't wait to do it again next year, but nothing will top this year. Met so many good people on the road (there a few folks on the reservations we could've done without lol), the most memorable person would be the drunk junkyard guy in Holbrook Arizona who saved us with a generator he supplied. I can go on for hours, but I'll save ya.
    Good times, good times :)

Hey Guys, Just want to stop in and say hey and say thanks for the help. We would have been there a while. Had too much shit to fit in the floor jack and sure enough we needed. Thanks for the rescue. We had even more trouble along the way as well. Self inflicted unfortunately. After having the flat and got it repaired in Kingman Az. We decided to backtrack a little bit to Laughlan NV. Cheep nice rooms at the casinos. Not that I hadn't lot enough money.

I left my keys somewhere in the Casino. So I had to hotwire my car to get it out of there. When I Pulled out the Ignition I accidently pulled the wire for the idiot Light for the Alternator. Well We got about 100 miles from flagstaff and the car died. Battery Dead as hell. Set out the bout and hour or so before a hi-way patrol called a wrecker. Wow now that was high dollar. Thought it was the Alternator first But then realized it was the light.

Make along story short. Nothing Like breaking down in the middle of Az.
Got drunks with some locals and headed on our way once the batt was charged. But we would have never had the awesome experiences that we did due to just breaking down.

Just wanted to give a shout out! I have a new outlook on the HAMB now.
Have had some bad experiences on here.

    Pictures to come!
