I am putting a new trunk floor in my '38 Ford and have lost the location of the two body mounts that are near the wheel well. I have a picture of the wheel well, might anyone have a picture or can you please give me a location for these mounts from this mark on the wheel well? Thanks...........
Here is mine awhile back. Still has original paint on the floor...hope it helps, but I'll look for more. Murph
Thanks for the pic. I have kind of a different animal it is a Rumble Seat Conv. and the mark I sent out on the wheel well is a little different then a 40 but still in all that is a help. Thank you very much. John
Helllo Sir, Mickeyc here. I currently am replacing the trunk floor in my 40 coupe. Are you using reproductions floors or are you making your own? The reproductions from Dennis Carpenter have the holes in place. If you get a Bob drake catalogue and look up the rubber body pads there is an illustration that might be helpful. If you would like I can take some hard measurements from my chassis. You should be able to correlate the body mount holes in your chassis as well? Also the mount near the area you are indicating has a stiffener under the trunk floor panel that raises it off the chassis the body bolt passes through this stiffener. I hope I helped you a bit and did not confuse.
Mickeyc, Thank you for the reply. I do have the newest Drake catalog in front of me I know where the pads are located as I have the body off of the frame the floor that I am using is from Direct Sheet Metal this is a modified car. In addition to that it is a Ruble Seat Conv. and is currently off of the frame. www.westcotte.com also has the complete frame measurements. I have had to fabricate new rear rocker panels and repair the inner wheel wells where at one time I had the location marked of these holes. And I understand from a another member that not all body mount are in the exact location. I am in need of the location of these so that I can weld in the rear floor brace that spans the frame. I might be that I will have to put the body back on the frame to get the true location. Again thank you for your help. Thirtyeight
"I might be that I will have to put the body back on the frame to get the true location." That, of course, would be the way to ensure they're positioned exactly correct and negate the variances of body & frame manufacturing.
I posted pics of my 40 in your post on the Barn and your idea to sit the body back on to locate that floor support is a good one. That is how I replaced mine and I actually used the bolts to hold it in place with the rubber mount while I tacked it. The fact that the frame drops at an angle and the support is shaped accordingly makes positioning it a little tricky. Do it in assy. you'll be happy that you did. good luck.
Thanks again Joel I think your right I will just have to stick the body back on the frame and make sure everything lines up. John
