I'm thinking about picking up a 1927 DB 5 window project and cant find very many examples out there. Anyone have any hidden in their picture stashes? I think this thing could be cool if done right, just not sure what right would be. The car I'm looking at, don't worry the IFS will be parted out: Only other examples I can find:
Mine is not a five window but very similar. Notice how I fixed the fender to wheel gap which is a problem with these cars without doing major frame changes. I added sheet metal to the fender to fill the gap and welded new beads to the edges. You could change the frame since yours is a project and no fenders. Mine was a resto-rod. I might have done it different if I started out to build a rod in the first place.
Seems like early Dodge fans like their fenders. I really want to run fenderless, one of the reasons the ifs is out. The rear of the frame is contoured to follow the body so I'm good there. 5 windows look to be pretty rare. Sent from my DROID RAZR using H.A.M.B. mobile app
This is my '26. It just got delivered about a week ago, and I can't even mess with it due to a MCL sprain and bone bruise. The five windows seem to be fairly rare in hot-rodding circles, from what I've been able to find. Great start....I'll be watching your progress!
That is exactly what I'm looking for, is that a 32 style tank? The ch***is that was built for the one I'm looking at is set up for one. The rear end of the body is what I'm having trouble sorting out in my head. I guess I just need to embrace the odd with this one.
The tank is the original Dodge Brothers unit. It's round, like an oil drum. The five-window has a totally different rear end than the three-window, with the weird clamshell trunk lid, but like you said, I figured I'd just embrace the oddness of it. I've always had "different" stuff, and that's part of the reason this car appeals to me.
I can see the possibilities of a round tank. I didn't take any pictures of the rear of the car but it's set up like so: Homebuilt frame running an IFS and parallel leafs/lsd 9' out back. SBC/muncie 4 speed for motivation. The body has been roughed in just needs a little finishing. This car belonged to the father of the seller's wife so he has all the little parts that are usually lost by this point in the project. I'm just trying to figure out how to balance the old and the new for a good looking and functional rod. I am tempted to put a slant 6 in it to go with it's oddness
Having a Mopar engine was the selling point for me with my '26. SBC's are great engines, but I'm really sick of looking at them.
