Picture Request: Model T Parade Grounds Racers, Hill Climbers, or Salt Cars

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tony Bones, Mar 27, 2006.

  1. Wondering if anyone has pic.'s of teens and 20's Model T dirt track, hill climb, and salt cars? Not as much on the web as I'd thought.

Also, any links to Model T hop up parts manufacturers or racing sites would be great.

    Thanks.

I bet this is exactly what you were looking for. My clown car which is gonna be a rod this summer.

I too would like to see more racey Model T's, not so much ground scraping V8 hotrods, but tall, spindley, four banger powered early racing machines.

    Tony -

Here's a couple shots of an old Fronty-powered racer that I took last summer during a speedster get-together at Speedway Motors. This partially completed car was up for sale (20K!).

Do a search for "speedsters", or check my old posts for that particular thread (posted last summer), as there were several other pictures of T-powered speedsters and hopped-up motors.

If you don't have any luck finding them - let me know and I can e-mail you the whole batch.

i dont think that i ever heard of building model T's into parade ground racers...come to think of it i believe this is the first time i have ever heard of someone racing a model T, always thought they were kinda slow.

    could you tell us more?

i found this picture of a real fast one, it even has double chain drive!

In an effort to keep this post moving along and turn up more pictures for me to hoard...

There was a fairground racer (I've never heard them called "parade ground racer" before) on eBay not too long ago. You might check completed auctions and see if the pics are still up.

  11. Hubba fucking hubba!!!!!

'bout 15 years ago saw an as for clothes in some style magazine (not mine I will point out) and the photo taken in the 30's and was from the inside of a shop (think it was a barbers) looking from the back of the shop out though the window, parked out front was a T a bit like this but fully fendered and it was real low. I lost the page I tore out but started to collect parts, it just got sidelined by other cars. I will get round to it one day but I still cant work out how they builder had got it so low with the stock wheels. It was awsome though

I think I'm going to continue to trickle pics onto this post until I run out. I'm hoping others will respond with pics I haven't seen yet.

I'm reorganizing my account, which is breaking all my picture links. I'll try to go through and fix them tomorrow.

  15. Don't know if this one's getting ready for the salt flats or a mud bog, but I'll add to the fun anyway. Possibly the first belly tanker. But, any way you slice it it's certainly "traditional".

Everytime I see a pic of this car I want to build one like it with a Model A banger T5 drivetrain.

hey! you cant post that picture (i posted it many moons ago), that car belongs to a friend of mine.

The specs on it are: 90" wheel base, 12" engine set back 7" drop front and 6" in the rear. Ruckstell rear w/ 3:1's. It has a single port Rajo and an A cam.

Sorry furb, I was gonna give you credit for the pic, but I couldn't remember the car's actual relationship to you. I do remember that it's got a Minneapolis-Moline nose on it, though. Sure is cool looking.

It's important to remember that there are only two types of Ts around me: stock restored and T-buckets. So any picture I post is stolen from somewhere.

Here's another stolen pic while we're at it:

A teens T with an OX-5 (Curtiss Jenny) aircraft engine. I believe this is an English build.

just giving you a hard time :D, the rad shell is a kick in the pants!

neat car!, i dont think that is in any way a t! the radiator looks to be either early bug, or maybe a delage (not many companies used egg shaped radiators) but that is one hell of a special!!! if i could ever afford it, i would love to build an edwardian era areo engined special!!!

(last night i went and looked for my back up cd's with all my pictures on them...i havent found them yet, but when i do i will post some more stuff here)

i like the doubled front cross members, one up and one down and the double front wishbones. single port fronty with (think) a miller carb. It is a little bit later (late 20's) as it is running 21" wheels. definately a great pic!

Thanks for posting the first front view of that car! I don't think there is one Ford T part on it, but I REALLY like it. Radiator looks to be Type 30 or Brescia Bugatti, Frazer-Nash type front springs, nicely built car. There must be a magazine feature on it somewere.:)
