A friend of mine has been letting me scan some of his personal pictures on the computer. I was 12-13 years old when my Dad started taking me to his shop. This was the mid 70's and he was welding/fabricating and building Sprint Cars at that time. These pic's show the era before "the Sprint Car Days". His Dad owned a Auto Center in the early to late 50's in our little town of Romulus. It's obvious that his Dad's love of cars influenced him early in his life. His name is Jack Shick, and these are his pic's... Romulus Auto Center (circa 1953) the building is still there... New ride in the stable... Different view of the new car... Jack at age 5 or 6 in his dads Midget at Flatrock Speedway... Jack at age 22 or 23 in a ride of his own (his friend Ray Dugan in the background)...
I grew up in Wayne Mi. not far from there,..... thanks for posting those pictures,... if he has any more please post them,..
I love those pics! Nice clock and signs on the front of the building. Cool car out front, ready to do battle. What kind of car is Jack sitting in? Looks like a Mopar maybe. It must be pretty bad ass with the roll cage and Jack wearing the fire suit.
I like the way back then you could take a couple of rails, make a trailer and that was OK. Not anymore
Hey what is the guy in the early NHRA style top fuel driving suite actually driving? Anyone....Anyone...?
