I'm going to replace the electric fan on my roadster with a factory fan blade. I'm running a '48 flathead with a dual carb intake. With this intake I'm not able to run a fan/generator combo as there's no room for the generator in its stock location. Does anyone have any front pics of a flathead with a double crank pulley and a fan mount in the generator stock location? I'll run the generator on a head-mounted brkt. Thanks,Mike
I do not have the picture that you are looking for but what you are saying should work. I have a the generator mounted in the stock location and have the fan mounted below it running off a separate belt. With mine, I should be able to move the generator over to the head and the fan would not be affected. Or did I miss something. Neal
http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/.../Flathead_Engine_complete1942-48-leftside.jpg Note that the fan bracket attaches to gen front piece, soeither a chunk of that or a simple slab of metal will be needed. Edel and Offy useta make an aluminum replacement bracket that eliminated the need for spacer.
This is wrong year but basically same as 1942-8. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_engine-pics/Flathead_Engine_fan-hub1948-51trucks.jpg
Bruce, that's the fan/mount ***embly that I bought so I guess I'm on the right track. I was hoping to get a pic of how guys are mounting their generator/alternators off to the side. Speedway sells a right side head mount for the original type generator or powergen...Thanks for your input..............Mike
for early flatheads, traditional R&L offset brackets are very different, and on some applications like a '40 Ford only one works. One kind mounts the generator perpendicular to the head, the other mounts it perpendicular to the ground. Generator location ends up quite a bit different in relation to engine centerline.
