I had a set of hurst slicks- the blackwalls(still have em) they held up great- just don't let them go low on air... any recap... it'll mess them up. I ran the blackwalls on my 34 coupe-

I had hurst kustom make this pair for my roadster-
    7.10x15
    6" wide slick
single groove down the center just like they did back in the day-
    28 3/4" tall
they balanced out nice and they didnt weigh too much-

EXPENSIVE but right... cost $700 shipped to my door- (custom order on brand new casings) can't remember what the shipping was so it was prob more like 600 or so...

every slick I've seen is either the right width but too short...

or the right height but too wide...

they should go straight up the side of the mag!

Anyways... I've had good luck with Hurst.
    Thanks Cody and Steve :)

Every morning I check my email and check the HAMB. This morning I find your PM , I can't tell you what went wrong but I have NEVER , not once ignored any complaint. My phone # "503-656-1572" has never changed and I never have received a phone call from you or your buddy. I would have called you back and in doing so would have told you to send the tire back. I have not seen a tire nor an email regarding your issue. Please contact me so we can get this sorted out. I know how important it is to resolve any issues with my product like any company, and we have a great image to uphold.

When you call 503-656-1572 you will either get "me" Cody Adams , my "Dad" Steve Adams or the answering machine. We are the Owners , and the Manufactures , "WE" are it. Two people , and we never miss a beat when it comes to tacking care of business. We primarily make sales do to word of mouth and referrals. We have little to none advertising budget and have been fortunate enough to be recognised in Street Rodder , Rod and Custom , Dice Magazine , HAMB!!!! due to our good reputation and good products. I feel something does not add up to have ignored multiple avenues of your complaints, and to have brought it to this formal complaint on the board.

By the way boy's and girls this gentleman was contacted today by phone at 8.45 AM West Coast time, I left a message and am waiting for a return call.

    My email is ahrrubber@qwestoffice.net

    Thank You

32765.jpg I had a set of the Hurst tires from Oregon City, Oregon and the tire pressure was good and this is what happened after 300 miles. It just came apart!

"QUOTE" I had a set of the Hurst tires from Towel City

Towel City has never been a customer or reseller of HURST RACING TIRES.

I gotta say that Cody and Steve are two of the nicest people I have met in this business! I don't sell lots and lots of Hurst tires (yet), but I am never disappointed at what arrives when I do! Not many companies you can say that about these days...

After e-mailing back and forth with Cody a couple of times and a lengthy phone conversation this morning to discuss my particular issue - it is completely taken care of. Cody was taken aback that I'd had any issue such as the one that I described. I told him after 2 years I wouldn't make such a thing up. I told him I was never mad at he or his company, just confused and wanted to drive my car again some day. He agreed that if he were in my position - he'd have felt the same way. We talked it out as one hot rodder to another....he, again, as I said from the start, is a great dude, great business man, very fair, and rightfully so - very proud of his product. My issue has been dealt with to 110% of my satisfaction and I'll have no problem buying tires for my other 2 cars from him. I strongly encourage anyone who has ANY issue whatsoever - to pick up the phone and drop Cody a line. From my experience I cannot imagine him not wanting you to be 110% happy with his product.
Cody, I must apologize to you for the situation, I meant you no black eye on the hamb - or anywhere else. I've only been a member of that hamb a few months and never used it for a tool for these issues before. I hope that you can accept my apology and are open for friendly buisness dealings with me in the future. Thank you for what you've done for me in this instance, and what you do for our hobby.

I've heard way too many horror stories about the Hurst recaps.
I would not run them on anything!

I just wana say... that 6 years ago when I was looking for slicks... there were only a couple people making pie crust's... and we had to rely on finding NOS slicks or used vintage slicks..

Now look at the variety... its so damn rad.

pinner white, pinner red, pinner white,
double, triple pinner slicks with crust,
    big *** pie crust
    small pie crust
    15's
    16's
    single groove cheater
    double groove
    triple groove
    5 lines like a Hoosier
    you name it...
    they make it.

I used to work in a Firestone plant when I went to tech school for auto body- we recapped tires... and recaps are recaps... they're recycled tires- sometimes they come apart... you see them all the time on the highway. They're usually tires that already had 50,000 miles on the sidewalls... USED... think about it.

You can help avoid this by buying new casings- and paying more...

But... for the most part... used tires are good... what you don't usually hear is all of the tires that didn't come apart... talk to a trucker... and they'll tell you... they get miles and miles and miles on recaps... and in all of those tires... sometimes you get a bad egg and they blow apart, and because they're recaps they make a big mess... But they're a cost effective way to get the job done. Thats what recaps are... COSTEFFECTIVE[TM]...

I just think that we're lucky right now to have a business wanting to make us stuff that allows us to really build a period piece... something that really looks like it came out of the little books instead of something thats CLOSE...

Wheels make the car man... you can't argue that...

Just think if there were no HURST.. then what?

I'd tell you what... I'd be SCREWED... I'd be stuck with steam roller tires from Radir that are way too damn wide for my application... or way too short... OR... I'd be on the hunt for tires so old I'd be scared to drive on em...

I'll take my chances with recaps... there are millions of them on the road every day...

Anyone who has had time in the tire industry can clearly tell in that photo that the tire was ran on little to no air. It would have been nice to have seen the tire in person but the customer refused to return said tire. Possibility of many other factors can take place in a tire failure like one shown. But again it is always the "Recap's fault and never improper use or maintenance of equipment.

How the hell do you guys think "slicks" originally created anyway? They were ALL recaps until about '60 or so! And, I would hazard to guess, were used a hell of allot harder drag racing than most of us will ever push them.

I've been researching tires and wheels for a g***er build I am currently working on, and when I called Hurst up on the phone, Cody answered on the third ring.

Even though I wasn't calling to place an order right then, Cody was extremely helpful with info on wheel width, tire fitment, and a few other things that I needed to know as I was planning my rear suspension build.

Two members of my car club have Hust pie-crusts on thier g***ers that get a lot of street and strip time, and neither have had any issues at all.

When I get to the point where I am ordering tires, I won't hesitate to call Hurst up and send my money their way. I have total confidence in their standing behind the products they make, plus they just plain look great!
