I have looked into the spacers. I may go that route.

I said I was gonna wait until the weekend to drop the engine in, but I had a little time, and a lot of ambition this evening. It went well. I mocked up the headers. The pass side has plenty of clearance. The driver side has a small issue. The headers hit the front body mount tower. I don't have the trans mounts bolted up yet, I'm hoping that it corrects itself when I bolt up the trans mounts. Anyway, here are some pics of my progress. I bit the bullet and cut the dash out today. Still haven't decided which one I'll put back in. Anyway, I took out the pedals, air duct and pretty much every thing else that was in the way of cleaning up the inside fire wall. No pics as it was not picture material. Oh and as I was running the air chisel a little later than usual, one of the neighbors called the lawman. The wife said someone thought it was a b&e in progress.... They found out it was just some idiot wasting time in his garage.

Sorry you live near others.. If you decide to use the '57 dash, the defroster duct is different. I can dig one out if you need it.
I might want a section of what you cut out yesterday. Can you show a pic of the dash center? Thanks!

I decided to just put the spare 55 dash in it. Tonite I was working on some of the issues it had. It's gonna turn out nice I think. I've also been cleaning and prepping the metal inside the car. I'm gonna spray all of the inside hotrod black. Sorry, I didn't get any pics.

I put little time in today. I'll finish sanding and then get some paint on it.

IMG20230204150535.jpg i laid down some insulation on the firewall. Trying to get the inside stuff down so I can put some flat black paint on all of the inside of the car. I also took the regulators out of the doors. I'm gonna work on the them with some lube.

Reminds me of when I touched up my girlfriends firewall with rattle can. 43DA2C6A-A0B0-4866-BF73-6DCBAD6A179F.png 69404418-ADCA-4701-81A7-81F4396144AA.png

    Nice detail work, Johnny.
Back in the '70s, HRM ran an article. 'Lil John Buttera's son Chris did a driveway rebuild of a 10 year old Z28. The car was a good looking street machine. 'Lil stated that half the car was painted with a spray can. Good results can be had^^.

You can lay down a pretty decent job on a cool day without much wind if you shake all of the cans up and pull the lids. Then hose until the can starts to sputter, then toss aside and grab the next while shaking the next one in line!

Rusty - I saw a BA specific stainless part at the rear window area. But no front fender spear holes. Solid looking car.

The body is BA the doors and fenders are from 210 cars. I believe it was wrecked, pulled from a junkyard and drag raced for a while The car was used and abused back in the day. The car shouldn’t exist, a lot like pigIRON’s car. But enough about mine, let’s get back to the main topic!

PigIRON, have you decided on colors for the car? I see by the firewall the factory green. I believe the factory green and white combo is very sharp! Please keep the pics coming.

  25. I've been spraying the interior areas gray, instead of black, lightens up those areas when I'm on my back under the dash, looking for issues. At least it helps these old eyes.

I'm not real sure. I've had a few different colors in my head. I like the original Neptune green. Seems it was a popular color when new, but rarely used now. My wife thinks it needs to be turquoise and ivory, I think that color combo is overused. I really like 1966 Corvette Sunfire yellow. I just painted an Elco that color and it would compliment black interior very well. For now it will stay "au naturel" . But, I''ve been collecting better body parts for when the time comes.

Years ago I had a 210 that we painted ‘77 Corvette yellow. So, yeah you might not want to go with turquoise. It’s not a lot of fun when you pass yourself on the road.:D

  28. I like original colors- Neptune Green is a good one to go with.

So I went to the paint supply and picked up some paint for the inside. I ended up getting hot rod black urethane. I went home and sprayed it. It turned out well except it is more glossy than I really wanted, oh well, it's covered. IMG20230207172720.jpg IMG20230207183752.jpg IMG20230207183734.jpg IMG20230207183804.jpg

Today I put the traction bars and air shocks on. I spent a little extra time running the air lines though the inside of the frame rails. It looks better with them tucked up out of the way. IMG20230208210459.jpg

When I put the engine in it, the headers were touching the fire wall. So I spent the rest of the night adjusting the mounts to get some clearance.

Looking great! Worth it to cut the rear deck for a second 6x9 speaker prior to window installation. I used a 4'' electrical knock out cutter on the '57, looks factory.
Your lady's color choices were popular in '55! Looked up the paint codes on my HT. Sure enough, Regal Turquoise, India Ivory two tone.
