Sanded and painted the dashboard this evening. Turned out ok. It has a few specks of dust in it, but considering where I painted it, it did good. IMG20230209203540.jpg IMG20230209203528.jpg IMG20230209203557.jpg IMG20230209203600.jpg

Be sure to give a good look at how you remount the dash vs how the factory did it.

It’s not like I’ll ever do it because I no longer wish to blow cars apart just because.

Dash looks good, is it going to get riveted in, or screws or something? Curious to know how you're going to mount it. It would be nice if they had been removable from the factory, like a Mopar or Ford of the era.

I'm planning on spotwelding it back in. I may have messed up by painting it first. I plan on cleaning paint from the areas I'll weld, and after it's in I'll go back and touch up the black.

Hopefully the inner window trim will hide the welds.

When I got home from work I headed to the garage. I worked on my dashboard install. It wasn't as easy as taking the old one out, but it still wasn't bad.

I drilled 3/16 holes in the pinch below the windshield frame. Next I used a flap disc to take the paint off the dash where it contacts the pinch. I hung the dash using a few pair of vise grips. This worked well because I could adjust the dash a bit up and down. Once the dash was correctly placed, plug welded it to the pinch.
Now that the top was done, I put my doors back on the car and used them to line the horn of the dash with the window garnish. I used a set of quick grip clamps to hold the dash in place once it was lined up. I little welding down the sides, and on the bottom bracket and now my car has a good dash.
I did scuff and scratch and burn a few spots on the dash,so I will be touching it up, but over all I am happy with it. Once that was done, I mounted the fuse block under the dash, and went through my quarter window hardware. Cleaned it up and made a list of needed parts. Many thanks for sending the cure for my hacked dash! That old dash has a little life in it yet. Good to recycle. @Squablow - I'm down with your plan!
