Soooo..... when I went to put in my fordomatic, the torque converter wouldnt go in due to the pilot bushing being in the way. So I took out the pilot bushing and it went in. Does that pilot bushing need to be in there? The reason I'm asking is because now that my driveshaft is in the transmission, my car wont roll. It constantly acts like its in gear. And I've tried rolling it in all the gears. I'm not sure what to do now. Any help or tips would be greatful. Thank you! Rocky
Wait. so, you've put in an engine from a car equipped with a manual transmission, correct? You don't need a pilot bushing, the trans should fit on the end of the crank without any bushing whatsoever. Now in terms of not rolling, there might be a problem. Did you get the trans rebuilt? does it have any fluid in it? Just some ideas, I'm gonna let the other guys give you tips on why it wont roll.
No fluid in it right now... but I didnt think that would cause that. But then again, this is my first build, so what do I know? Trans was "said" to have been rebuilt recently. But I know how those go too. Thanks for the input.
Either the Park Pawl is not disengaging, the Sun gear is frozen or the clutches are stuck. May be able to pull the tail shaft to check the Park Pawl. Also, check the band adjustment, may have been adjusted too tight when they "rebuilt" it. Sounds like you may need to pull it to find out whatsa matta. And no you don't use the pilot bushing with the auto, the torque converter snout fits in the back of the crank for support. The reason you don't need a bushing iss because the toque converter, flex plate and crank all turn at the same speed.
There is the possibility that the converter was not installed correctly when you mated the trans with th engine.
