I have a 1948 dodge sedan, many "old School" mod, split manifold with dual carter 1bl, dual exhaust, cam bored etc. OD transmission, disc brakes. Having hard time finding a pinion seal for it. Someone has said to look at and 8 3/4 mid 60 chryler product. Any clear directions would be help full, year, model part #

  2. Can you get a number off of it anywhere? I have hundreds of obsolete seals. Is the rear diff the original? It would help to know.....

A old fashioned auto parts store should have a "master seal catalog". I had one from Chicago Rawhide and you look up what type of seal design (like a double lip) and then look up the OD and "shaft diameter", as well as the thickness. You can match most any seal ever made. Then it even gives interchange numbers for different brands than just whomever printed the book.

There should be a master catalog online somewhere.

  4. What they said ^^^, plus I'd add: go to a local bearing & seal distributor, if your local parts stores won't cut it. My local place can match anything...or, at least anything I've asked them to find. :) I've gotten antique tractor seals & bearings that were much older than '48.
