Projects Pins that hold door and window handles in place

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Babyboomerboy, Feb 23, 2024.

  1. I have a 1950 Ford and the door and window handles are held in place with pins. You can buy the handles but they do not include the pins. What does everyone use for pins. Thank you

  2. I cut off pieces of gas welding rod. Check size, can't remember if it is 3/32" or 1/8".

Generic roll pins. You can get assortments pretty cheap.

  5. I've used little short pieces of tiny dowel rod in a pinch.

What ever you choose to use ,they can still be a right PIA to remove or install. Even with the supposedly correct tool.

I always used a roll pin wire threaded through and twisted , so as not to loose your pin

I usually go out the back of the shed and select the right gauge of fencing wire to suit the handle LOL
Have various bits of left-over fencing wire behind the shed but it is getting harder as fencing wire is now smaller gauge and hi-tensile. @1932tub never thought of using nails.

I think made mine out of #9 wire.

On my Mopars, I use cotter keys, and bend the ends around the shaft. Easy to install, easy to remove, cheap, and often reusable for a couple of times.

With my last few shoebox Fords I just remove the vent windows all around and do 1 piece glass. I’ve never had any luck with vent windows

  17. I just used pieces of steel rod cut to the correct length.

I threaded my handles and used set screws in them.
