Cost of striping the wheels is probaly more than a stock cutlass is worth. They are hard to do especially the triples. The striped wheels don't fit the race car look but hey as long as you like it, go man go. Most people on this site forget that most of us have late model vehicles that are rodded and customized too. After owning more than 300 cars, they've become all the same to me. I think I'll paint my Escalade flatzz bloo, 24" steeliies on whites, ,louver the hood, and pull some yeller/oreenge striping!! I've owned a few of those 80's Cutlasses, damn neat cars when they are dropped, painted and wheeled right. I'll need $2grand to do the wheels. Yep, I really hate doing them.
thats awesome,,still at it!...it was lame how some dudes treated you.just take that car out of your avatar.lol
How many of the "flamers" even have a knowledge of how to pinstripe wheels? Sounds like a bunch of bully boys to me. I am considering pinstriping the wheels on my OT pickup just cause I like the idea. I remember my Dad had a big pile of old junk wheels from the 40's when I was a kid back in the 60s. I admired a lot of those old wheels with factory stripes then, and would like to do some similar work around the dog dish caps on my 78 Dodge Pickup! Flame away bully boys..............
(CHOKE) I'm selling my SATA's tomorrow and picking my swords back up...I'll pin wheels all day long for that price! Jeff
For sure and Philly is a great guy, met him on the awesome island of Maui once, class act. Boones, always great photos.
Ignoring the wankers on the hater bandwagon for a moment, what paint do you guys use? I've used red enamel (think hobby paint with a fine brush) with a coat of clear on black powdercoated wheels and after a while they got chipped/faded/etc.
40 ford 16" for my 31 A coupe. check out the little v8's in the striping , slicked up , painted and striped by Chris Fox , Fox custom designs . A fellow Oddballz c.c. member.
sv i ... use 1 shot lettering enamel. It's the only paint to use when striping and if you want to clear over, use a hardner let dry for 24 hours, dust coat. the wet. 1968...don't really charge that much to stripe wheels just my way of saying if you pay me that much I'll do them, otherwise I refuse. Used to do lots of 'em but turn them down now. Too hard on the eyeballs.
LowA100: Wow, I dig that Duece. I like the steelies, but LOVE the ETs better. What is it with you Ohio guys? You guys can NAIL the "look" better than anybody. Mikey is right about how much of a pain it is to stripe a wheel. You'll be pulling a line, all proud of yourself....that is, until you get to the end and find out you're 1/8" off from the starting point. This would be the one time when a Buegler tool would be worth the money. Boones- Nice pictures. I really like the Tommy the Greek style striping. Two colors really highlight the wheel, especially if you've got the same style on the body as well.
Footbrake: ignore the jerks and keep posting brother. there's some good people on here. sv i ....Like Mikey said 1-shot is the way to go. But definitely remember the hardener when clearing over 1-shot. i've also had some good luck with clearing over House of Kolors pinstriping paint too. but it's pricey
Hey fellas my wife has been driving an old rattled out merc tracer for awhile because it gets good mileage. I am thinking about painting it flat black with red wheels would that make it traditional? Do I need to pinstripe the wheels too I want to post some pictures as soon as we start the build up. There are only too things wrong with this post. One of them isn't asking questions about pin striping wheels. That is almost a lost art and needs to be addressed on a thread dedicated to traditional rods and customs. Oh this is a traditional rod and custom message board, imagine that. I couldn't tell by all the crap being tossed out by the genteel crowd. I thought that this was the Touchy Feely Assed Message Board. The man is 64 years old, he damned well ought to be able to stand up for himself, he really doesn't need a bunch of you fellas from the mamby pamby generation to stick up for him.
Aw cum on now... This thing is still going? Yeah a good portion of us have OT cars (including myself), but we don't post them here!! The 3rd post from Zman was short to the point and respectful. Any time you post your opening the door to opinions and it's pretty common for car guys to ride or tease others on their choices. But (speaking for those I know) it's not a personal judgement it's part of being around car people (it's not human resources or a political get together, we get into these hobbies to get away from that crap!) The OP sounds like a car guy (and a pretty nice one) so I find it hard to believe this is new to him. I haven't read all the posts here but keep in mind the internet sucks for context and tone. It's impossible to read how a comment is meant. If you were paying for striping, that's a different story and I'm sure opinions (if any) would be left out of the equation and you would get quality work from members here. But the rules of the HAMb are what many of us love about it, we deal with a specific niche here. There are 1000's of car forums out there and I'm sure many of us go to them for OT stuff.. I say own and drive anything you want, OT cars are NOT a lower class or a higher class they are just not a HAMB class. Follow the rules. It's the same with car shows, you have to follow the entry rules to keep the shows interesting to the spectators they try to attract. I mean most of us disagree with no not rod's at Hershey, but it's their show and we have to follow the rules.. PS Yeah pinstriped steelies are traditional, and a lot of the best stripers in the biz are here, no need to bring the cutlass into it.. imo
Gotta chuckle on occaision. I did have to go back and change a term. Artsy fartsy was an insult to the real artists on here. Sorry fellas
Wow Phill, you have the Midas touch right there, clean. I like the one 39 Chev posted as well, very nice detail.
Nice looking wheels on here thinking of doing that to the sedan.what is the best way to apply the paint stripping brush or one of the strippig tools?
Hey, I like em. I always said you can take a wheelbarrow and lower it, flame it, stripe it and it'll look good. I really do like those Cutlasses. I striped many Cutlasses for dealers in Houston in the 80's. Gold with cream and red striping sold well. In ten years we will be buying them and doing bad stuff.
