I'm having trouble with static electricity pulling the paint from the brush before I get it to the panel.... I've wiped it down with mineral spirits but it didn't seem to make a difference. Any help would be appreciated.
The anti static sheets used in a clothes dryer work for me. Use them by wiping lightly (like a tac rag) before you stripe. Wipe lightly, don't rub. If the parts I am striping are on a bench I put a damp (not wet) towel under them. RodP
I wipe plastic panels with Gl*** Cleaner and a paper towel. The more you wipe, and the drier the panel when you are wiping, the greater the chance of creating more static electricity. Gl*** Cleaner evaporates quick enough that I don't have to dry the panel completely.Wipe off the majority, wait a couple minutes, and it's ready.
Usually this occurs when working on fibergl*** as in boats, corvettes or some motorcycle parts. Use a spray bottle with water, mist the part and dry it lightly. Should work. If not, try putting a ground strap to the floor.
Simple - hit your work surface with a damp chamois. This is a common problem on boats, snowmobiles, bikes, and any plastic-type surface.
If it's just a panel like for a jam or a givaway...Just moisten a cloth and smooth it out on the bench and place the panel on it... no more static...
Alcohol can leave white residue on some surfaces. Not sure why. That's why I use gl*** cleaner. The foaming type is great,Windex works fine. Anything with Ammonia shouldn't be sprayed over 1-Shot.
spit on it! i remember the first time this happened to me i was out doing a snowmobile hood. i tried to wipe it clean with thinner it got worse so i spit on it wiped it off with a clean towel & waaalaaa.
