Sounds like a good idea leave the lead foot at home, check out all the lights and signals to make sure they wont get you nailed and drive the sucker on out Sat. I want to see the car that was worthy of trading your nugget for. Or you could just steal BoomBoom's tags when he's too far into that bass to notice!!!
Sounds much more accurate. I knew there should be an easy way but didn't know the details. Anyone know a tattoo artist who could put this on the backs of all of our eyelids for future use???
To hell with adding all that shit onto the car. I would either sale the car or do some looking into trying to buy a title from that year. May be worth the big bucks to avoid having to add all that safety shit. Just my 2 cents that aint worth much.
i can tell all you guys right now i am not adding all that stuff to the car to get it to pass inspection. i'll sell it before that. b
Was the car in your name? I have a Washington title in my name and just got plates for the Commander. I had the Washington state title and current Insurance with me, they took my check and handed me an antique plate. I used "for registration only" and they didn't blink an eye. TZ
Flt-Blk-- Mine was a little more complicated. The thing that held me up the most was the fact that somehow back in history, my car had the engine # AND the body # put together as an insanely long VIN... that's how it was on the title I got from the dude that sold me the car, and that's how it was on my copy of the NC title. When I went to register it in TX, they said my VIN was too long. I told them, well, just use the engine part of the number. Barney Fife wouldn't let that fly. This whole thing snowballed into something very similar to Bubba's story. Honestly, I'd be a little worried if I ever have to move away from TX now. I don't know if other States will honor the State-assigned VIN from TX. Oh, yeah. It was in my name, but I just remembered they had me "sell it to myself" as part of the transfer. (The NC me sold it to the TX me. )
here is a more clear version of the VTR-61 doc ftp://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/vtr/forms/vtr-61.pdf
I have ran into this before. The people in the tax office here in Texas dont know how to interpret the laws regarding the registration of antique vehicles. When I got my 61 wagon I had no title, so I went through a title company located in Quinton, Alabama which is a no title state for old vehicles, they use bill of sale instead. Being I had a VIN I just used that, paid them their money and they issued me a bill of sale for my car with my VIN listed which the Texas DMV recognizes as legit then they converted that into a Texas title. Now in your case, I would do the same. Contact a Model T club of some type and find out how many numbers in a Model T title. Then make your own up, and do what I did through Alabama. The people down at the tax office are 9 to 5 people that can care less so when you take your bill of sale down their make up some shit about you getting this T from some shit-hole sales place in Alabama and your going to restore it and haul kids and shit around it in parades. Dont tell them its a rod either. Do not mention your present Florida title or your friendly state trooper you spoke with. Drop the insurance until you get that bill of sale, then re insure under bill of sale phoney but authentic model T numbers "more than likely 6 numbers total", then take your papers only, leave the rod at home! to the DMV. Also a good idea is to stamp some numbers on a old rotted piece of tin and pop-rivet that to the car somewhere, some times the women at the DMV want you to get a "green sheet" from a inspection station. All that is is a state inspector validating the car has a number that matches the paperwork "bill of sale" from Alabama. Find some toothless state inspector that digs your car to fill the green sheet out then take it back with your bill of sale. BOOM your titled. Works everytime.
Do we still not have a smiley face thing that flips people the bird?? We're not all missing teeth... <~~~SEE?
This may be how the guy got mine titled. Although mine had a texas title and current tags, I think I remember findind a bill of sale from Alabama in the paperwork. This guy lives in midland but I also remember that the title issued was from another west Texas town. He may of had a freind at that DMV. Bubba I'll PM you this guys name and # in case you want to further check out your options.
Why was the ending a suprise to you. They killed everyone but dont worry we handed them there asses shortly after. You probably would like titanic. hehehe
Texas is friggin anal about stuff, but also every county interprets the laws different. A friend of mine built a Model A coupe from an old hulk and the local DMV bluehairs wanted him to do all kinds of crap and have it appraised (twice), pay sales tax, do the tax assesors hearing, yadda, yadda. He goes over to Smith county and pays $75 bucks, badda bing has a title. He had a Model A service block with no numbers and just stamped his drivers license number on it. He did need to use a buddys local address to do it. He had checked into the $125 title service and found out he had to give them the car(legally) with a bill of sale and didn't feel like trusting them that much. And also I heard Texas has a law going in that they won't take Alabama or New york titles on old cars anymore.
I just about fell over when I got the phone call. 2 T's in differant states with the same vin#? I used broadway title company and the numbers off the motor and had no problems getting it cleared through Fla. maybe you could get a NEW title through a title company using a vin plate with a differant number? I know it would cost a couple hundred but Id be willing to help ya out! I feel bad that your going through this but everyone has to understand the Green Bean is a LEGAL 1923 T in the State of Florida with a clear title. Its TX that has the issues Bubba keep me posted on what I can do to help
Actually, he was appointed after GWB left for the White House. He's a anit-liberal/commie/pinko. As for the fag part, he swears it's not true, but a a story was going around that his wife was leaving him cuz he was caught in the hot tub with another guy. I hate Prick Fairy...
I contacted the local office on this and they know nothing about not accepting titles from alabama or NY.... doesnt mean its not gonna happen though
From what I have gotten CA is the one that started all of this a few months ago and some high level guys in Texas have seen what is going on and want to do the same because they see the potential for $$$$. I can not remember the name of the politician that is involved with looking at the CA stuff but from what I have heard it is the same one that keeps getting voted in down in south Texas that is ALWAYS involved in the scrapage and eye sore stuff. Not to start a fight but the person is a democrat and is all into the green stuff hardcore. I talked to a couple of the title companies in the mags and two big ones said they probably will get out of business and almost every single state that had these companies (Georgia, New York, Kentucky, and so on) is being messed with by CA. One company is being taken to court by the state. It is all street rod and hot rod related stuff. Texas knows about these states and what those companies do now thanks to a few key individuals. I will have to call my buddy (who does not even live in Texas anymore LOL) and find out that politicians name again...I know the person has come up on the SEMA site in the past. Why oh why can't Texas and CA do something like the good people of MN and have a freaking Street Rod plate (or hot rod, or whatever) and make the process easy. I forget how the MN thing works now, but I think they title the car as whatever it looks like and tack on street rod to it... and thats about it...I think....anyone.
Oklahoma is the same way Monkey. If it's a fiberglass car, it's supposed to be titled as an assembled car and meet the years emmisions it was finished in. The way I got around it, was I got a bill of sale from the guy I bought it from. I used the VIN number off of the motor and titled it that way. You could also buy a title for a 23 and stamp those numbers on the frame and block to match?
He's not know as Governer Good-Hair for nothing... Bubba, do you have a friend with a shop? Have them perform a lein on the car, get a NEW title after the lein period is over, and then sell it to you to cover the "shop costs". It worked for me when I imported a 1976 truck from Brazil with no hope of getting a US title. If you want to register it as a '47, PM me.
This is fucked up. It's going to get crazy soon with titling untitled and/or hand built vehicles. The loopholes are closing. Broadway and all the other title services will be gone soon. I can see Texas wanting to title the GB as an assembled from parts vehicle (but then some might construe it as a KIT car.....ouch, that's gotta hurt) but I don't get all the bullshit about bringing it 2004 specs. When I built my chopper I got it registered as a '93 ASPT. The dude at the tag agency looked at my bike for about 5 seconds, glanced at the paperwork and gave me a frame plate. There was never a stipulation about making it legal to '93 standards, but that's Florida. I didn't know Texas had such a big corn cob up it's ass, I thought y'all were build anything, kill anything, eat anything kind of individuals.
I see this on here all the time but I have yet found anyone selling a 31 to 33 chevy truck title. Where are some places to look for titles. I saw where someone posted about the magazine ad. anyone on here supplying titles... That figures Merc. I was looking to go through Broadway or one of the others. Now Im afraid to as Im sure once I do the law will be passed and I'll be "tagged" and catch hell forever more trying to title my heap....
so i just got off the phone with the guy that Dirty2 set me up with. he said he has one he can get to me for $200. so im thinking about buyig this and titleing it in my name then stamping the numberon tihs title on the frame. im not even going to to change my insurance cause they never see the car and besides the numbers are still there on the motor. what do you guys think? b
