Technical Pitman arm removal

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by sgtlethargic, Jul 8, 2025.

  1. Clarification:
    Tighten
    Tap with hammer
    Repeat.

I killed a box (junk one anyway) by not using a puller and trying to bang it out like a balljoint.
    Youthful ignorance.
Never damaged one by tapping the puller. Or they still worked long after anyway.

  3. Well, I went with another puller and turned the front wheels so that tool was gripping right where it needs to. Then I cranked (using a cheater bar). What sounded like progress was actually the box pulling off of the frame rail some because at least one of the threads unraveled. I remember that the threads felt iffy when I tightened (overtightened?) them.

  4. This looks like one of those tools that would pay for itself in short order.
    ;)

That looks like it wouldn't work. Don't you have a 5lb. hammer and pickle fork? Or just smack the side of the mounting boss with said hammer, they'll usually drop right off.

I made this "C" washer to use with my damper puller (also made by me) to pull pitman arms on Vega boxes. It has worked good so far. Maybe I haven't had a real stubborn one yet, though.
