    you didn't cause any problems.

  2. You are OKAY, onedon.
The answer to your question is , depends. Get some helping hands, have them hold the visor up until YOU are satisfied with placement.

  3. We should start a section called "How I should build MY car".
That way everyone gets a chance to comment on other people's cars, and the author can then build their car to keep everyone else happy.
I like visors, sorry I can't help you with this one.

  4. While it's very true that over-the-windshield sun visors were not popular on show customs that hardly ever saw street duty and roadsters that did venture on the street. There did happen to be token visors on some hot rods that had tops, no doubt.
But suggesting that they were frost visors is a bridge too far. That's to laugh at. :p
They were dealer-installed options for the daily, "over the road and to town and back" vehicles to control the death rays from the sun and shave off a few degrees in the hope of arriving alive at whatever destination. They had that kind of function and "tradition". I saw plenty of them growing up in Texas.....
but I didn't see too many frosty windshields.

I'm sitting here looking at my 50 Ford coupe wondering how she'd look with a nice visor. I was a real hippie, lots of hippie car guys liked visors.

  7. Put the visor on it and drive the damn car. Don’t worry about what the people sitting on the internet bashing your car say. Some of them have nothing better to do then bash others cars and talk about the projects they are going to do. Everyone that bashes someone else’s ride should post a photo of what they are driving.

Don't let that fellow from Yakima (the unquestionable epicenter of hotrod and custom culture) drag you down. An old Fulton sun visor will look great on your ride. The best advice that you've been given here is to have a couple of friends hold it in place for you to get a good visual, and then mark it's location. Take a few pics of it at different heights while mocking it up, then decide.

  10. Here's my buddies 52, I recently loaned him the Lancer caps now just trying to convince him to lower MORE!

For those that have them on their cars, I often wondered, do they scoop a lot of air and cause wind noise at higher speeds? Just asking.:D

This is neither here nor there but.. The 1926 model 50 Buick I found in the west desert of Utah has a sun visor. I like them.

Lots of opinions but still no measurements. So I'll do my best to help based off my 52 Chevy with a GM "Ballcap" style Visor. Measured from the bottom edge of the drip rail. Approx 12' to the lowest hole & 15 1/8 to the top. Id suggest mounting the center bracket to the split windshield trim. Then adjust it up or down until it "looks" right. Some folks mount them way high, I personally like mine mounted lower. I added a pic of my car for reference.
(My visor has 3 mounting holes for screws but Ive only ever used 2.) As far as wind noise its no worse than any of my old cars with or without visors. Share a pic with us once you get it installed. @Onedon

Here’s a few pics of a 49 I used to own. You should be able to “eyeball” the location. PA180328.jpeg PA180327.jpeg PA180324.jpeg

Win, didn't you see the picture of my '51 coupe in post #13 of this thread? Go back a page, and you won't have to wonder. Put your finger over the grille, if that matters:)

The comments certainly show how “traditional” can be specific to certain areas.

That one will pass simply because it is a whole nine yards Bomb lowrider with the appropriate bells, whistles and trinkets. Not one thing that takes it away from the East LA bomba vibe and look. It's not a street rod, it isn't a custom it is pure lowrider. That's the difference.
What I am fussing about is the clowns with a honked up engine, mag wheels often with big and littles, no lowrider trinkets who stick a damned visor on because they think that is what the cool guys do. Or the guys who stick one on a chopped rig. Then on top of that they use a visor that doesn't fit worth a hoot. It's about staying on theme and sticking to the theme. That Burb is so on theme that you expect to see a club of guys in their wife beaters squated down in front of it in one of the photos.
I see too many guys now who are clueless about what a theme for a car is or what period correct is even when you aren't discussing traditonal hot rods or traditonal customs. Think the guy who buys a nice chopped Merc and the first thing he does is pull the white walls and Caddy caps off and stick on big billet wheels with tires with 3 inch tall sidewalls because he thinks white walls and caps are old fashioned. Car looks like hell to just about everyone except the kids who think that you gotta have that new stuff and the old farts who want to be kids.
