Plasma cutter issues

The shop plasma cutter (a nutech machine---MAC tools) was not working so I posted here and was told that it may be the electrode. I bought new electrodes and tips and changed them out but it still doesnt work. Any advice on what else I may look for to be wrong? All if is doing is blowing air out the tip. the cup looks OK but the o-ring is missing. Could that be the only problem?

 

i had a similar problem with my miller. make sure there is nothing intering with the electrode seating properly. Clean it out with some electronics cleaner.. that did the trick for me..

 

Another thing to check is proper air pressure..those things simply will not work with low pressure

 

I use a good filter to make sure I get no water or debris, just clean air.
Crap in the line can get stuck in the air selenoid and wont close. That will let air exit the torch constantly. Yes You need the o ring. FEDER

 

O- ring Is needed, I keep about 5 or 6 consumables and a few swirl rings and o-rings.

 

I will check and make sure that the electrode is seating properly and go get some o-rings. As per the air preasure I think it is getting plenty. It blows air whenever you pull the trigger and you may be lucky to get a small spark if you move the tip around enough on the steel.

 

I missed the other thread, but a good ground is important too. Make sure the oring is there.

 

If you ever run it when the electrode is not fully seated, it will cause pitting the electrode and gun. A new electrode will be scarred up also, unless the pitting is dressed. There must be very positive contact between the two.

 

I had the same issue and figured it was broke, spent $75 for check out charge for nothing. Just for them to tell me it was the air pressure needed to be turned up. I told them that was BS, I thaught I new how to operate equipment properly. Check and or turn up the air and check for good ground.

 

I have the same machine. It has the same problem? Pull the trigger and only air, sometimes a quick flash. Let of the switch and the air flow stops as it should. Sound familiar?

Air pressure is up. good ground, blah-blah-blah.....

I went and bought a new torch lead assembly after I disected and destroyed the original trying to "diagnose" it. When I put it all back together it worked like new........

.......For about an hour of use time. Now it is back to it's old tricks. I kind of got discusted with it and filed it under the workbench. I was figuring that maybe someting got in the air system and caused it to react like it had no air (drt, water, or rust as stated by FEDeR.)

Let me know what you find. If you figure it out I'll buy you a beer! (hypothetically speaking)
